Single host routing

Mon Feb 07, 2005 10:56 pm

My ADSL modem (D-Link DSL-300T) issues a default route with a 32 bit subnet mask. This is marked as invalid by MT and this was discussed at length on the forum here a while back.

Will 2.9 support this routing mode? I'm keen to remove the NAT kludge I'm running on this modem at the moment.

Why don't you replace the modem with a router (like a Dlink DSL502T)? Ask your ISP for 2 fixed IP Addresses. One gets assigned to the Router, and the other is for your single LAN client, i.e. your Mikrotik Router.
I use Eclipse (UK) as an ISP, and can get 2 IP's instantly from my account on their Website.
I tried the 300T first, and failed. I now use the above setup with 2 DSL502T's on two 2mbps ADSL lines load balanced.

Steve

Good idea. The 300T is a flawed product & it looks like I can get a reasonable deal on the 502T.

The 300T does work but I have to use two IP addresses on the MT external interface and use the modem's NAT mode.

I`m using a speedtouch 510 adsl modem, and my MT box is pptp dialing over that for a internet connection.

I live in the netherlands. There are some people playing with Static IP Spoofing (Router gets public ip) but i did not test this setup with mikrotik (yet)
