QoS

Thu Apr 24, 2008 4:01 pm

Dear All.

I intend to apply the QoS roules on my mikrotik, give more priority voice packets than data packets.
Regarding your experiences, is mikrotik powerful in QoS? So, when I prioriterize voice packets does they pass through firstly?

Thank you in advance for your information.

Hi,

I think you have over simplified your question.

Mikrotik ROuterOS is a comprehensive set of tools, and the software will do EXACTLY what you tell it to do with your traffic.

So, the short answer to your question is yes. The long answer is that it depends on what other things you are doing with your traffic. Realise that RouterOS is so much more than a traffic shaper or QOS tool.

So please consider carefully your plan before deploying.

And as always, read the wiki and the manuals....

Rgds

Hello!

Firstly thanks all of you for your help.
God bless that was invented Forums, and this one is GREAT!

I want to implement Voip technology on my net for international calls. Normally this will be done through internet connection.
But I have a limited bandwidth (1.2 Mbps). This bandwidth will be used both for navigating and voice calls.
In this case I thing to implement QoS on my Mikrotik.

Please, can someone help me how to build EFECTIVE QoS on our system?

[All outgoing/incoming calls will have one ip source/destination (IP of SIP PBX, 192.168.12.61/32)]

All the best!

Hi Bledar,

There is a lot of information on themikrotik wiki for you to start with.

Try these:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Category:QoS

Also there is a hidden wiki article on voip here:

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Voip

Especially the second one.
