Gateway Routing V3

Sat May 24, 2008 4:03 pm

Hi all, we are having some issues with gateway routing since upgrading to V3. We have two WAN interfaces with public IP's on different /24 spaces, but both WAN Interfaces have the same gateway IP within /16 space.

WAN1 AAA.AAA.AAA.10
WAN2 AAA.AAA.BBB.10
GATEWAY AAA.AAA.1.8

If you try to assign the same gateway IP to the two default routes (WAN1 WAN2) only one will connect and the other will be "blue" (this is well noted in other forum posts)

In version 2.9.51 we got around this by simply directing 0.0.0.0/0 gateway=AAA.AAA.AAA.10 and 0.0.0.0/0 AAA.AAA.BBB.10 Effectively making the interface the gateway itself.

Since V3 you cannot have the gateway as itself, it wont pass data. There is a workaround to set the gateways AAA.AAA.AAA.254 and AAA.AAA.BBB.254, this works for everything accept SIP data from outside our ISP's /16 space.

may be worth noting the WAN architecture is two Linksys AM300's in half bridge mode. Worked perfectly for more than a year in 2.9.

So, is there any way to have both routes listed with the same gateway address OR how do we get the "gateway itself" to work in V3 like in 2.9?
Keep tryin' its bound to work!!

I have found the problem. It seems the AM300 was flakey in half bridge mode, Linksys have released new firmware (1.19.04) that specifically notes a fix for half bridge mode and gateway.

Now that I have upgraded firmware the x.x.x.254 gateway address now passes data.
