Migration RB532 -> RB333 with the same config

Mon Jun 16, 2008 7:10 pm

I would like to move my configuration from RB532 with MT 2.9.51 to RB 333 with MT 3.10 .
When I try just to use system/backup/save on RB532 and system/backup/load on RB333, no success - I cannot connet in any way:
- if MAC telnet is used - I am receiving "Router was disconnected" immediately
- if serial console - I am receiving message "Starting Services .... " and nothing more
- through LAN ports - no success - no IP address is working (I am not able to recognize, what is actually assigned to ports)
Sorry for being lama, is there some help?
Thanks
Ivan

I am interested to see what people have to say about this as well since I am going to be trying something similar (RB532A --> RB433AH) I was hoping that this was possible but it may not be.

This isn't going to work because the MAC addresses of the interfaces are different. You will have to export to file (/system export file=rb532), then remove the sections that relate to any MAC address and carefully import them.

I find that it's easier to redo the interfaces manually and then import info like firewall rules and scripts.

Someone also mentioned that if you import wireless settings, you need to make sure the security profiles are defined before anything else. It's worth scrounging around for more info on this. But I can tell you that my method works, although not 100% cut & paste.

I found a good article on this by Butch Evans;

I am using Hotspot with many users, when using export and import, I am loosing some information - ie. actual uptime for each hotspot user
I.
