Feature Request: Multiple External Caches & Drives

Sun Oct 26, 2008 11:55 pm

I think it is a necessity to be able to specify multiple upstream caching servers within web-proxy.

This will enable redundancy if the upstream cache fails it could use an alternative.

As well as multiple caching drives to allow one to "expand" the caching facilities of web-proxy without replacing the main drive one it gets full.

Isn't that already supported via Store? You can add as many drives as you want, to automate it, change the role from master to backup via script? on the fly changes are possible

My apologies, should have been a little more specific.

Yes multiple drives are supported however only in the fashion that if one fails you can use the other or swop between drives.

What id like too accomplish is rather expand my cache by adding an additional drive for web-proxy to use. Rather like one can specify multiple locations/drives in squid.

Then this will enable me two use two or more drives simultaneously with web-proxy.

I have two sites that are nearing the drives capacity and rather than loose all cache and use a new bigger drive, it would be a greater benefit to simply expand.

Regards.

Ok, so lets make it a feature request then!
As for the link, that would also be an option for the more enterprise environments, however as far as i know ROS doesn't support NAS devices yet, hence why my first part of this post also refers to "External caches", what i meant there was to be able to mount remote file systems for use locally.

This would allow for the use of NAS devices such as the link you have posted, or even store the cache on a local file server that has enough storage.
(In my case i do have a file server with +- 15Tb that i could share!)

However this doesn't leave an easy option for the low end customers.

Hence Feature Request then for:
Multiple cache drives for web-proxy (All Active)

And:
Ability To Mount Remote File systems For Use Locally (SMB/NFS)

On the second point, maby ROS currently has this feature and ive missed it?

Will appreciate any input!
