Sniff pppoe passwords

Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:06 am

Hi,

The userman db from one of our server strangely dissappeared while trying to use the new /store.

Sadly due to mistakes there was db no backup either, and we have only some of the passwds.

Now i've recreated all my users, but i had to put new passwds for some of them.

Is there a way i can sniff/read the password being sent by the pppoe connection attempts?

That would save me the trouble of having to send people to every customer who needs it's pwd changed..

Regrads,
Santiago.

If your customers' equipment is set up to only use CHAP then you've got no chance, but if they use or can use PAP, then try this:

Set up freeradius on a linux server, configure it to log passwords on incorrect authentication attemps.
Configure your PPPoE access concentrator to query freeradius for PPPoE authentication.
Then look in the freeradius log to get the passwords.

Hope that helps you.
