Well is it possible or not? PPPoE over L2TP?

Mon Apr 20, 2009 10:22 pm

Ive followed a number of threads about PPPoE over L2TP and no one has gotten it to work in any of the threads.

Ive got a test setup Ive been working on for 4 days with no success.

Can it be done or not?

Is it even worth pursuing?

Ive been using PPPoE over EOIP for a while but I was looking for something more efficient and standards based.
Is L2TP more bandwidth efficient?

Ive tried all this. It doesnt work.

I can get as far as seeing PADI packets pass over the bridge, but the PAD0 never go back.

Ive tried MRRU as high as 1600. I set the server to 1600 MRRU, MTU and MRU 1460, the client is set to 1600.

Do you have a complete working config?

Ya the l2tp tunnel properly is in the bridge once it connects. I spend 4 days trying, and never could get it to work, and suspect its a possible bug in newer versions of mikrotik.

I never tried with RouterOS, but I have implemented PPPoE over l2tp-v3 with cisco.
