"FATAL ERROR: no CD-ROM found" during installation

Tue May 17, 2005 1:14 pm

Hi,

I've been using RouterOS in a standard PC format for a while now but I've recently bought a mini system based on a Geode GX1-S 300Mhz CPU with 64MB RAM and a 128MB PQI Disk-On-Module. The system is equipped with USB and so for installation of ROS, I connected a USB CD-ROM and configured the BIOS to boot from USB-CD then C drive.

The system then boots using the CD media but fails with the message...

Looking for harddrives...
found harddrive as IDE Secondary Master (disk E)
FATAL ERROR: no CD-ROM found
Press ENTER to reboot

...and as much as I play around with the setup, I can't get any further. I've also tried both the release and beta versions.

I could try USB-Floppy but I don't want to waste so much time if it's likely to have similar problems with USB based media?

Can anyone offer any suggestions/comments?

Many thanks,
Gerrard.

the easiest way is to boot from the cf

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\randy>C:\physdiskwrite.exe C:\2.8.23-install-image.img

that is the software name and then just load whichever version . you need to load the image file not the cd version

dont know why your getting the error message but , we have had this issue and gave up and just load direct to flash unit.

you can also load the flash unit in a test mach. then install it in the other unit

i am not sure that the ide module with load with that software package.

the best thing to do would be just load the system from a test system then install the module in you other board

If only I could... The Geode board only comes with a 40-pin male connector so I had to buy a 40-pin female disk-on-mod - this is the opposite to a 2.5" hard disk so a normal adapter is the wrong gender and I have no way to mount it!

Floppy disk (USB) installation fails also, but only when disk 2 is requested.

correction, maybe installation FROM USB could work, but TO USB it won't work:

FATAL ERROR: no CD-ROM found" during installation

Wed Dec 28, 2016 5:40 pm

I am using an IBM xeon x3650 M4 server. After booting from CD Rom its shows harddrive found SATA 1 and then shows fatal error-no cd rom found. We had tried installing on another normal PC but the problem still persists. We had also tried changing the cd and DVD a no. of times. Could u suggest some solution to this.

boot from network, and install via Netinstall.

It is actualy 16 years old. And seems like the isue was never solved. Semms like nobody cares. I am after 2 days of infinite try's, and still could not do an x86 install.

I am using mikrotik products and I was actualy very happy with it.

After 2 days of crap, no ideas what to do else, I believe I will just burn everything I know about mikrotik and just move to a real company.
