DHCP not working 100% (broken)

Wed Jul 07, 2004 12:38 pm

I just moved a DHCP/NAT network from a cobalt qube3 to a mikrotik running 2.8.11. All computers are working but there are a couple of devices that can't get an IP address from DHCP. One is a Vonage VoIP adapter made by Motorola and the other is a debit card machine that works off of broadband. Both of these devices were working fine with the Cobalt Qube3.

We have the Vonage adapter made by cisco and it works fine -- here at our office. You need to have service port tftp enabled for nat to work -- which it is by default on v2.8.11 .

Ya the one I had trouble with was a Motorola - not a cisco. It wasn't an issue of getting nat to work, the problem was the unit would not aquire an ip address via dhcp. We eventually set it statically in the unit and all was well.

In the case of the ip debit machine, it had no way to set the ip statically, it forces the user to use dhcp. We had to use a Linksys router in between them. The router aw able to obtain an ip from the Mikrotik, and the debit machine was able to get it's ip from the linksys.

Both devices were working properly on the qube3. The leases table of the Mikrotik shows the mac addresses as being 'tested' then 'offered', but never bound - it just times out.

You should connect one of those devices having it try to get a dhcp and then make a supout file so that we can see what happenned.

Send the supout file to support@mikrotik.com
