is the 1000U model something for me

Sat Aug 01, 2009 10:09 am

Hi All,

I'm new here and looking for a firwall solution for my colocated servers in my own rack. I have 2 gbit uplinks which are redundant. My current setup is as follows:

<2x uplink> --> <hp_procurve 1800-24G> (which has 2 dual personality ports for the redundant uplink) and the switch is used to plug my servers in.

however we need some extra device which allows us to block certain traffic. Can the 1000U model help me in this setup?
Does it allow <2x uplink> -> <1000u> -> <procurve> -> <servers> ?

Any link to some more detailed setup constructions would help me alot, thanks!

Yes, RB1000 is suitable for your needs.
A lot of configuration examples are in wiki:

The 1000U is a great product, if you need a few more ethernets you can move to a supported x86 product, http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported ... 86_Systems is a great place to start.
