Hotspot extension over cable

Wed Aug 19, 2009 10:01 pm

I want to extend my 1st hostspot with the 2st connected by cable

I've two 411 (only one ethernet for RB!!)

On the 1st there is :
- ether1 for internet and public ip
- bridge (wlan1 + vlan1) for the hotspot with private ip NAT 1:1 (for the client 192.168.1.x)
- vlan1 are created under the ether1 with another point to point private class 192.168.20.1

On the 2st there is :
- bridge (wlan1 and ether1) with ip 192.168.20.2

What should I do to extend hotspot in a transparent mode?
With this configuration I can't ping 192.168.20.2. Why?

For a start, you are creating a VLAN on your first RB, but not on your second. Without this the packets headed for 192.168.20.12 are being VLAN tagged, but there is nothing to tell the second to look for tagged packets so it will not know what to do with them.

On your second you should have:
- vlan1 under ether1
- bridge (vlan1 and wlan1) with ip 192.168.20.2.

- vlan1 under ether1
- bridge (vlan1 and wlan1) with ip 192.168.20.2.
I tried this with no success. Why?
On the first RB ip address are on VLAN1
On the second RB ip address are on BRIDGE (vlan1+wlan1)

but not ping. :?
