PPTP Encryption Problem

Sat Sep 05, 2009 11:52 pm

Ok I have a little problem. I cannot find anything except unanswered posts on this topic so some help would be appreciated.

When I use windows PPTP client to connect to a "default" pptp server everything works.
When I use windows PPTP client to connect to a "default-encryption" pptp server NOTHING works. No pings no traffic. Incoming bytes stay at 3xx

(I obviously change the "require encryption" checkbox in the pptp client when not using default encryption)

Please, I need encryption on my pptp links. Can somebody help me with this!

are you using Windows? check that there's no 'Compression' in Connection state (Details?) of your VPN connection

Ok forget about that. After trying to get this fixed again after about a week, its not working for either encrypted or unencrypted. Its doing exactly the same thing with both.

I can connect fine with mikrotik and a vista client, but 4 of my XP pc's can only connect but dont receive data.

When they connect they can only send data, which is then received by the mikrotik. only about 350bytes are sent from mikrotik to clients. Everything inbetween clients and servers are mikrotik routers running 3.x or switches.

I am really going nuts here. Will post my config shortly, but its all pretty straightforward and default

have you checked 'Compression'? can you ping VPN Client's address from RouterOS? can you ping VPN Server's address from client?

I can ping from the clients to the server. I can ping from the clients to each other. I can ping from the server to the clients.

Compression is (none)

Compression won't work with MT - it's a MS thing (Most Linux PPP's only support header compression - not the same thing)... Encryption, you MUST use MSCHAPv2 authentication, and only MSCHAPv2

Encryption, you MUST use MSCHAPv2 authentication, and only MSCHAPv2
but sometimes (1 of 1000) you had to disable MSCHAPv2 =)
