Feature Request: Winbox for BlackBerry (crazy but effective)

Sat Sep 12, 2009 2:55 am

Would't it be great to have a blackberry winbox client?

Let's think about it and comment.

Thanks in advance.

Just use SSH.
Specific answers require specific questions. When in doubt, post the output of "/ip address print detail", "/ip route print detail", "/interface print detail", "/ip firewall export", and an accurate network diagram.

I have never held a blackberry in my hands :) They are not very popular outside US. The best we could do is make a web interface for mobile devices.

Well there is about 60-70 million running iPhone/iPod operatingsystem...
Andorid in only running on about 2million devices.
(i know what i want to code for).

Use the API to make your own, or just SSH...
The best thing is a webbased interface using AJAX or such, so that it has this real time effect.

the one I use is rdm+
it cost a few penny
There is a server to install on your windoz inside your network that have access to your AP
so you can control dude and winbox
it working well as you will understand the way you can navigate in your windows screen with your little blackberry screen.
it also depend on your connection speed

i used to use VNC and RDS on windows, but never on BlackBerry device, since i've just bought it yesterday, lol. that is sad, to have to buy the application. I managed to use MIDPSSH to connect as telnet, although, winbox is always the best.

but something weird happened when i use the MIDPSSH, i cannot connect to anything if i use BIS(BlackBerry Internet Service), the only thing works is through WiFi access point.

BlackBerry support for Mikrotik's Winbox please, it is really painful using SSH Telnet to set the network with BlackBerry.

Has any progress been made on this? My preference is a better web-based control program. I use ssh to control my system, but my new assistant is not as ssh literate as I am. And the current web interface on V3.30 is inadequate. Winbox is far superior to that interface.

I have a pair of Blackberries with Rove Mobile SSH (just found this!), and I now use mine to control my test router. When I am satisfied with the security, I will use it to control all my routers. It does support port-knocking, which is a basic requirement for my security.

Thanks! Have you used it? How close to Winbox is it? The old web interface had no access to the hospot section. How about this new beta version?

Thanks, QpoX!
Anyone know if the hotspot section is available?

The "Big Three" for me are:
/ip hotspot host
/ip hotspot active
/interface wireless registration-table

I'm not going to use a beta version, but good to know that it is on its way.

It isn't reachable right now, but I think http://demo2.mt.lv/webfig/ should get you a demo unit (user demo, blank password). Can't raise that router on any protocol right now but my browsing history claims I've been there.

I found a workaround from my salesman. He has a 'smartphone' of some sort. He uses one of those remote desktop web applications like 'logmein' or something similar. When he ends up onsite, he just has his laptop connected to the radio, and runs winbox on it. I know that isnt like what a native winbox would be, but its here today. I can only contemplate the coding nightmare for the endless amount of devices winbox would have to run on. I am sure there are other ways to do it. I am working on one right now, but dont think its going to be what everyone wants...

yes, remote desktop, VNC and such programs are always a good option, and they exist for most platforms.

The new web interface link is now responding, but not what I wanted to see. :( No hotspot access at all. I am still waiting for my RIM code key for my Blackberry. I've been programming in Java for years. Blackberry uses it. Android uses it. Linux uses it. And with a download, Windows uses it.

We had Java, but we had problems. No drag-n-drop files, limited features. Users must download large software packages etc.

Got all worked out with the MD5 routine. It was a corrupt file in the simulator package. I don't know if anyone else is interested, but here is a screenshot of the simulator, after logging in to my router. The log verified it.

Re: Feature Request: Winbox for BlackBerry (crazy but effect

After I saw the new web interface, I almost gave up on this. Almost. Now that I see the display, and the custom screens I can develop. I am glad I didn't. I attached a couple of screenshots of the simulator (easier than taking pics of the phone). Notice the menu is not cluttering the screen unless you press the Menu button.

The communication with the RouterBoard was a little trick, but once I figured it out, it is a talkative little thing! My new assistant should be pleased that the CLI is no longer required.

The only drawback about BlackBerry programming is the code keys required from RIM to use the MD5 routine in the phone. Makes it a not-so-easy and a "not free" install on the phone.

I am no longer chained to my laptop and a hotspot connection. No longer will I be subject to leaving a good meal at a restaurant to get to a computer on a weekend night. I can do all right from my table. Yippeee! I'm FREE!!

ADD: Not all functions work. I complete them as I need them. But my "Big Three" are already working!

Not yet. I've got about a dozen sections working. And I have a company to run at the same time.
If you are interested, maybe you can be a beta tester as I get it more complete.

I do have my code signing keys now, so I can compile the code into a net-loadable version, rather than the "serial port" upload required without them.

Just an update. I promised normis I would keep him posted.

I've been playing with this for a while now. Tried one flowchart. Didn't like it. Tried another. Good, but not what I wanted. This time I like it. I can test the socket connection using TCP, but I can't test BES or MDS. Hopefully, there will be someone here that will understand this and respond.

I am about to start on the "phonebook" section. It does portknocking, user and password automatically. Click a button and you are connected. What a wonderful age we live in, if you don't mind me ending that with a preposition. :)
