Something is eating up my bandwidth. HELP

Wed Oct 14, 2009 5:57 pm

hi everyone,
i am having serious network issues with my router and my network as a whole, my network is slow in browsing and fast a times, now when it slows down i restart the modem, it will pick in several occassions.
am using mikrotik router which a network admin helped me in configuring and the bandwidth am expecting from my ISP is 200 upload / 1024 download (kbps) . the image below shows my routers interface when i logged into the router. based on this facts, i contacted the net admin via phone, he asked me some questions which i answered, he now concluded that something is eating my bandwidth or somebody is overusing it that i should trace it out by my self.
please i need help on how to solve this issue because my ISp is not having problems for now and am using AVG internet security full version, updated and daily scan enabled, added with comodo firewall and tuneuputilities. am talking of cyber cafe with 20 computers connected in a network.
how will i trace what is eating up my bandwodth and how can i block it from the router.

thanks

Collins

while i was waiting for replies, i browsed some links in this forum and saw this links that might be helpful to me

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Firewall

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/How_to_au ... MTP_output

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Bad-host-detection

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Protecting_your_customers

But the problem is that i am a newbie in all this and cant do all those things alone unless am properly directed in a newbie way where i can understand better.
i pinged my DNS, and the diagram below shows the result, but i highlighted something with red circle which i will like to know how it operates and the meaning.

in your firewall, block all the ports and allow only some few useful ports like 80, 443,21,25, 5050 and others
