How to restore interface's default MAC address

Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:04 pm

Hello,

I happen to have duplicate MAC addresses in one network I'm troubleshooting right now, and I suspect people just did 'export' in one device and pasted that into another one. I don't want to invent other MAC addresses nor use locally administered addresses, so please tell me the way to restore MAC that's built into hardware.

Thanks.

Hi guys, I've found two RBs with same MAC address on wlan, maybe a wrong cloning operation.
Is there a way to get factory default mac address without reseting wlan configuration?
Thanks.

Not that I am aware of, but you can export the configuration
/interface wireless export
Reset the wireless configuration and then import it.

Guess maybe it's the far end of a point to point link and this is not doable without losing access?

Another way to restore a wlan (wlan1 or wlan2) mac address is this:
Note - This only works on a Mikrotik if you have access to it when the wireless if disconnected !!!!!
- 1st , make a backup
- 2nd , using Winbox , in wireless click on [ Reset Configuration]
- 3rd , now go into wireless and copy the wireless mac address
- 4th , restore the backup
- 5th , paste in the correct wlan mac address
- 6th , make a backup (of your correct configuration)
