Why is?

Wed Jul 06, 2005 6:39 pm

Why is the wlan disabled by default? We have to replace one of the radio's in a card and it's disabled by default as well as all our configurations are lost for it and we have to start over from scratch with that particular radio. I am curious why that is? Why it doesn't just use the same settings from before and not erase all the settings for that particular radio? It makes it a bit of a pain to replace radio's since you just can't replace a faulty or bad radio easily.

This is presumably to stop interference or security risks if a radio comes up "enabled" on a default freq, and with no security set.

This topic came up in the past on the forum.

IMHO there should be a "copy settings" function to copy all the settings from the failed interface (now removed) to the new one, then enable it, using the same identifier (WLAN1 etc).
The only thing that would differ of course is the MAC address of the card.

Regards

Yeah that is a good idea for the copy feature. Especially when it has several WDS bridges to it.
