Pt-Pt Connection Across Water of 4.2Km

Tue Dec 15, 2009 2:06 pm

Hello,
I need someone to help, i have to sites that across water and i need to establish a link btw them. i have a Skypilot radio which i've used for the project, but it seemed the water wave is affecting the connection keeps doing on and off. Now im planning to use Pt-Pt link with the two site via Mikrotik Radio and Parabolic Antennas.
Can anyone recommend the radio spec and the antenna for me. The distance is 4.2km across water here in lagos, Nigeria.

Thanks.

i dont think you need parabolic antennas patch panel antennas 21 dbi would work well rb133 and says r5h radios or r52 should work for such a short distance

Using Horizontal polirazation is supposed to work better over water.

Thanks for ur suggestion. while in thing of using parabolic antenna is becuase the connection should serve as a Backhaul for my connection and i needed 1ms on both ends for my latency. Can 21dBi integrated antenna give this.

Thanks.

Yes it can. Get alignment and power settings right, choose a clear frequency away from other noise and you'll get that easy.
