MUM Poland 2010 thread

Wed Dec 30, 2009 7:29 pm

Hello to all,

I'll go to the MUM and I'll make a training before.

I want to inform people that will do the training and go to the MUM that is cheaper to make the reservation of the hotel directly in the website hotel.

Special price for the MUM assistants is 375 PLN, but as you can see, it's cheaper if you make it in the website (310PLN tax and breakfast included):

This is my receipt:

Mercure Wroclaw Panorama

Tel : (+48)71/3232700 | pl. Dominikanski 1 - 50-159 WROCLAW - Access map
Room 1

Dates of stay : from 24/02/2010 to 03/03/2010 , i.e. 7 night(s)

Taxes Lodging tax :
National taxes on accommodation, by night, by room 7.0% (from 1/1/2009)

	141.95 PLN
Prepaid amount	2169.75 PLN
I saved about 110 € in total : P!
ALSO IF YOU PAY ONLY 1 NIGHT, IT'S CHEAPER THAN THE "SPECIAL" PRICE, the difference is to pay the day you arrive to the hotel or to pay now. If you pay now you save a lot of money but if finally you can't go to the MUM, you'll lose this paid money.

I hope this help all of you.

freeload is over, '2 nights getaway' was closed, so 'special price' of 365 PLN/night is the lowest again =(

I am sure you can find something cheaper in poland :) if i get any offer i will post it here

for example in Rzeszów cheapest "hotel";p cost about 30zł without meals and there is plenty places were you can eat for less then 40 zł for dinner

You just have to know where to look for it:)

From 24/02/2010 to 03/03/2010 , 7 nights
2153.35 PLN
The promotion "Winter Promotion - Chilled Rates 3=2" looks the cheapest

as far as I can see, there's only 'Hot deals - no change, no cancellation' and 'Best Unrestricted Rate' now in online booking. both are more expensive than 'special offer' =)

Just booked my hotel through http://www.staypoland.com.

Found what looks to be a nice little place a short walk away and have booked three nights for PLN597 including breakfast (as opposed to the main hotel's price of PLN1090 including breakfast).

QoS works great, but hotel has 512K upload, and there is 5 stories of hotel rooms, speed is split :) we can only control what's on our router.

Yes RB1100 was announced, not really any news about the CPU that I caught anyway.

Maybe someone else caught it, my stream stopped for about 5 seconds :(

RB1100 = WIN
RB250GS or whatever.. = MEH. Needs more ports! How about PoE?

I'm pretty impressed with the product announcements overall. Thanks, Mikrotik!

Yes, as posted above RB1100 has 2x Attansic switch chips

Also, RB250GS also uses Attansic(Atheros) switch chips.

I think they're kinda dropping the ball in the wireless area, specifically in the area of newer or innovative technologies that could give them a pretty competitive edge. Hence the question.

Mikrotik already concentrate on routing....

It seems they are trying to widen their potential market by introducing a new switching OS and a 5 port L2 switch to run it, IMHO it seems to small and simple to really be useful . But who knows, they may introduce a 24port version with MSTP support and dual 10 Gig uplinks....

For all of us theat NEED simple , inexpensive network "Probes"...
This is GREAT NEWS !!!

Also some network security devices require a "tap" port to run IE FaceTime..

NICE alternitave to the $1,000 and up tap devices..

Yes some swithes in the mid range can do it... but most are a pain to set up..

Other features look interesting as well..

Need to get one SOON !!!

Looks like. No announcement regarding wireless. Just router/switch. No improvements
in 11n. No smart client device with signal leds and Mimo built in. The 1100 seems to be
slower then the RB1000.

I think it's not a real good idea to start building switches. There are a lot of cheap
switches out there. Switch built into router is a good idea as it reduces equipment.
But everybody has a gigabit standalone Switch already.

Thanks it's not Apple. The stocks would drop by 50% immediately.

No, but they have been advertising for an RF engineer with antenna design experience. It could be for testing environments, but then it could be for product development....

Haha, nice one Normis ! I am sure many people are eagerly awaiting the "loads" of new wireless products, may they have many blinking blue LED's ;)

The presentation of the new products was good. What was introduced with the RB1100 was evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

The new product launches appear to be driven by the technical/support teams, maybe a little more sales type info would be useful. e.g. Target markets, Retail price point, Estimated shipping date

The RouterOS 5 information was also good, SSTP will be useful and the improvements in RouterOS's IPv6 implementation is great.

<flamebait> I have never liked the inclusion of OpenVPN in RouterOS, I look forward to seeing it replaced with SSTP </flamebait>

I like LEDs ;-)) Esp. When they tell: "Power is on and signal is Perfect. Please dont call your wisp".
I love this poe adapters with LED. They solve 80% of my problems with one fast look.

I know the times when every PC has LED Numbers showing the Megahertz it is running at.
People love this stuff.

So Normis bring the 200MBit/s LED to my customers ;-)).

I'm not sure what you are asking our opinion on here, but I'll give it a shot:
You personally did great. Your co-workers could (uhhhhh...) use some (uhhhh.....) refinements in public speaking. Though I suspect the pausing is a result of being bi or tri-lingual and getting all the words in a jumble before they exit the queue. =) So, who am I to point the finger? I'm only weakly multi-lingual.

I applaud you all on your hard work a dedication to bring us (unreasonable as we can all be) a great product. Keep it up, guys!

any news on the RB250GS?, please tell me it's a RB450G with 8+ ports......

5 ports just don't cut it for me and adding an 8port gigaswitch does not cut it money and spacewise(think Cisco RV200ish, 16 ports multi-wan router all-independant ports, VPN, ~300$)

Nope. 5 port switch.
I'm not very enthusiastic about it myself, but then again, the switch market is very crowded, especially in the low end.

I agree with Eising about the RB250GS, hence my comment to Normis about target markets.

I am sure if we knew where Mikrotik were aiming to sell this, we could probably sell them.

most unfortunate, i was really expecting an 8 port+ gigabit routerboard(no, a rb1100 will not work for a soho/home router :D ) without a 2 digit pricetag, or a 493G without minipci slots, i guess i'll wait for next year to see if they come up with a >5port inexpensive version to consider deployment

true, 12~16 ports gigaswitches price rise exponentially, but i'd be more than happy with an 8 port version, 5 ports is just too few(is the same with an encore adsl modem, 4 ports available), take this example:
1 port lost to modem/wan device
1 port to wifi backhaul/bridge/MAN link
only 3 ports left for computers which in the aforementioned case is more than likely to be present.
that leaves 0 available ports for any other gadget/access point/roaming devices

even if it breaches the $99 mark, as long as it ends up being cheaper than a RB450G(or 750G)+8-port gigaswitch(which runs in the 80~$ range here bringing the total close to 200$) then it's more cost-effective to the customer(and also gives much more control as now i can do rules and access control on a port-based basis and segment the switch as i want that i wouldn't be able to do with a regular switch uplinked to a port on the routerboard), thus my comment about a RB493G without mpci(or one mini-pcie)
more than 8 gigabit port routerboar under 99$ ? I think even chinese switch is more expensive :)

I would assume that a 750G could do everything that RB250GS can do plus more. A 750G is $70 so is it safe to assume this switch might be down around $50 or so? Personally I would still rather shell out a little more to get the 750G. Also, it would be nice if they had a non-gigabit switch for say $25 that worked in cold and hot temperatures. Sometimes we need a switch outdoors. It will be interesting to see what the temperature rating for the RB250GS is.

Exactly, how many times do you need a managed 5 port switch ? Most of the times unmanaged does the job and those switches are cheap. If I want more functionality I'll prefer to buy a 750G which has all the features I need and even more.

I would directly buy a 24/48 POE port Mikrotik switch if they created one but I'll pass for this one, sorry guys.
