Fri Feb 05, 2010 7:26 pm

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I have tried a number of settings but am not getting anywhere with this 3g modem. It works on my windows pc but seems hang on the RB411u router os 4.5.

Update: I also tried a Sprint U301 usb 3g modem. Still no luck. Both of these are on the compatability list. If anyone has one of these working please post the config.

Patiance...

Someone jumped the gun..
The USB "layer" detects the device, but it does NOT show up under ports (in 4.5)

It will have BASIC support in 4.6 (At least in the test version of 4.6 (No not posted yet) I am testing..)
Soon my son.. Soon....

In 4.6 (Or 1st stated supported version) remember to set the baud rate at the port to 9600.
I cant remember the command / data/ info port layout at the moment...
But all 0 settings will connect..

I am testing with 300U and 301U (NOTE: 301U is faster, more stable, runs cooler and has an ext ant connector )....

I have NO 4g towers near me at the moment, so can only test in 3g Mode..

RouterOS has no control CURRENTLY over the mode of operation IE 3G / 4G..
It uses what the card detects....
Also the Flash is not avail under the stores. (A good thing)

Also use the Init string that I have posted on the forums for the 598U. It works for the 300U / 301U
All other settings for the 598U will also work.

Remove the "Internet" setting in the PPP-tab I think it is the "APN" setting?

I intergrate the 598U series into the "Blackbird" routers ... The 300 series is next.....

Craig,

Just coming on board with MikroTik. Looks like a great embedded solution for my application.

Looking for quickstart to configure a basic RouterBoard (suspect 441U most basic for my needs) to accept USB U300 Sprint modem and a Verizon USB760 to provide ethernet passthrough to the routerboards ethernet port.

Could you provide your instructions as to best quickstart to get this prototyped and running for a demo?

Via this forum I see you have significant experience with problems and troubleshooting in this area. It would appear that I could bump into suttle problems like PPP init strings incorrect, possible RB OS revision issues, and general Sprint/Verizon carrier issues. Looks like you have found how to navigate through them.

By the way, I have read most of the MikroTik posts on their site and about 2 hours of forum posts before considering asking for your guidelines first.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated to avoid the common mistakes. I have not prototyped any RouterBoard yet, so this is a startup. We utilize Cradlepoint 3g router/modems at the moment

Hi videoicu

If you're still looking to prototype a unit let me know. I can probably help you with that.

Yes definitely still need prototyping help.

I would like to utilize the 411U and operate a Sprint U300 or U301 and also a Verizon USB760 with it.

I have not purchased the 411U (or any other RB) at this point.

What are your reccomendations to start? I appreciate your assistance

Sory... Just noticed the post...
Dont know why i didnt get the notify... (Sam...)

The 411U can certanly handle the load... CPU Etc..

You WILL want to look into the 301U rather than the 300...
It is a lower power device, The 300 needs a battery pack in it... we cracked one open at the last US MUM...
(it was a techie open modem surgery... Baltic Networks and Mikrotik techies all pouring over it's little disimbowled guts).. We had to work quickly as our Sprint rep was on her way....

Check some of the other posts...

There is prety much a tutorial embedded in them....
