this is internal testing. when it's stable, we will release for public testing. if you want, you can email support for private testing. this version is pre-beta, so you know what to expect :)

when we released v4 beta, v3 continued to be updated for a whole year.

New features:
http://mum.mikrotik.com/presentations/PL10/intro.pdf

What's new in 5.0beta1:

*) added support for IPv6 over PPP
   (enabled by default if ipv6 package is installed),
   link-local addresses are assigned, and server can issue IPv6 global prefixes
   to clients per ppp secret or RADIUS reply (Framed-IPv6-Prefix);
*) added proper support for MPLS over PPP (by default it is now disabled);
*) added support for SSTP protocol (PPP over STL);
*) ssh is now completely rewritten - supports connection forwarding;
*) WinBox - any file dropped on WinBox will be uploaded to router;
*) added support for multiple Intel Ethernet cards;
*) updated drivers and kernel (to linux-2.6.32.5);

If they are not in the list, they are not there (yet).

Email support if you want pre-release. It is guaranteed to have issues, be warned.

Hi,normis

I got v5 beta today and try to update it.

And finally I found no change in "system package", they were still v4.6.

I don't know how to set the pppv6 server, would you please give me some suggestion?

thanks!

check "/system package print", if you still have v4.6, then check "/log print follow" and see what error you have.

no error happended...and the version number didn't changed
Here is my step to update v5:
1. download v5 x86 npk file from Mikrotik
2. upload the file to Routeos via FTP
3. reboot the Routeos

After I send the reboot cmd, i can see the verify and install message, but no install process shown.
PC reboot very quickly and after reboot it still show v4.6...

Seems this verision can't support upgrade in x86....

The beta version looks to have been removed from its location (ending with) /temp/5/routeros-x86-5.0beta1.npk

Anyone know its new location (to save me emailing support).

Not having clarity on a release for DHCPV6 is a major pain..... :oops:

I know a few people that have tested ipv6.. only major problem was that none of the interfaces get link local addresses (they get some random junk instead) so you have to add them manually to make anything work.

Also the firewall isn't fully implemented, although I'm not 100% sure of the details I was talking to someone using nth routing on ipv4, which should work the same on ipv6, but not all the commands are implemented yet.

It is a first beta.. shouldn't expect everything to work :p

Hi,

beta 5.0 is deployed week and so far I have not seen any significant problem, stable on X58 Chipset, ospf me also works well, I just does not work bandwidth test.

I expected a better performance with the growth of SMP functions, but he still does not take place, the burden of the CPU is still the same.

The problems I have already reported on the MikroTik.

What was the problem in 5.0beta1 and time a corrected version ?

PS: Mikrotik has complied with the term ”release“ 5, I am very pleased :-)

v5 works fine, no critical bug for me, but have one question for Mikrotik - why so long used Fasteio (you have new kernel and new IGB drivers) for the ethernet ?? (tested on intel 82576 and P55 chipset), why you dont use MSI/MSI-X ?? its much faster

   to clients per ppp secret or RADIUS reply (Framed-IPv6-Prefix);
*) added proper support for MPLS over PPP (by default it is now disabled);
*) added support for SSTP protocol (PPP over STL);
*) ssh is now completely rewritten - supports connection forwarding;
*) WinBox - any file dropped on WinBox will be uploaded to router;
*) added support for multiple Intel Ethernet cards;
*) updated drivers and kernel (to linux-2.6.32.5);

Hi,normis
Would you help to check if this release note is only for V5beta1 or V5 final release?
Do you have plan on DHCPv6 recently?

this note is only for v5beta1. next versions of beta could have more features introduced, so final v5 release features are not known yet (not announced)

We already have the latest Intel drivers in v5 beta, regardless of what you see in the kernel version. Same for SMP fixes.

DHCPv6

Tue Mar 23, 2010 2:26 pm

What kind of information would you like to distribute via DHCPv6? As you know, there is no more need for automatic IP address assignment in IPv6, so DHCP can be used to distribute for example DNS server address. What reason do you have for DHCPv6 support? Give us more details of what you need.

I would like to use the pppoe ipv6 address to the assignment by the RADIUS server. ipv6-over-Ethernet communications in general will not be used.

DHCPv6 is useful to push v6 DNS server addresses to Windows servers that don't support RDNSS. I'm not sure the addressing part is so useful.. but companies may want to keep their old v4 practices and translate them to v6.

But IPv6 Router Advertisement mechanism is broken in current stable ROS 4.6 (when want to run RA at bridge interface). More about this issue can be found here in this thread http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=38166. What's the status of IPv6 RA in ROS v5 beta? Thanks.

Over here in Australia DHCPV6 is being used to hand out IPV6 subnets to CPE equipment which is then in turn handed out to local devices on the LAN. More info here -> http://ipv6.internode.on.net/configurat ... faq-guide/

My desire is to be able to deploy Mikrotik CPE to client sites on the end of an IPV6 ADSL link.

Looks like 5.0beta1 finally makes some progress on the IPv6 side, which is badly needed.

Normis, are you guys going to bring the feature-set up to comply with draft-ietf-v6ops-ipv6-cpe-router (http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-v ... -router-04) ? This is basically going to be the RFC for interaction between providers and CPE's.

Also, there is already a patch available adding support for TUN-type tunnels to OpenVPN, which also might be good to get implemented: http://www.greenie.net/ipv6/openvpn.html. This has been extensively tested and works with servers and clients, that don't have the support, without breaking them.

Is Lua scripting support going to be implemented in v5? It doesn't appear in v5beta1.

What would the licensing be for V5 on older devices. Thanks for making V4 available to older RBs like the trusted old hardy RB532A and our older RB133C's that came installed with V2 and upgraded all the way to V4. But will V5 also have a license upgrade or is it time to upgrade hardware as well if we want to keep up with you guys? ;-)
Any comments on resource appetite for V5 compared to V4 i.t.o. CPU/RAM usage?

Well done MT! You kick multiple asses! Now if only you could release a device that is so compact and easy to install as a Ubi..nan... (you know what), then you'll grab a lot more business. MT software is so far superior to those other toys, it's like comparing a skateboard with a sports car.

I found 3.x already very harsh on the RB133c's, but have you checked system -> license after upgrading your RB532's ? Once you're at ROS4 level, it actually says "Upgradable To: v5.x".

Quick question:
Is the 4.x line going to stop here at 4.6 or are you going to release more 4.x versions before v5 goes stable?

If you've followed the 4.x beta and pre development (and the same with 3.x) you'll have seen, that Mikrotik usually releases beta's and pre-releases for many months, while stable releases still also get released. If would be foolish to think, that 4.x is bug free at this point.

Also, if you read back in this thread, Normis answered that question already.

I`m tested V5 on Pptp-server - 1200 active users, 50 Kpps, 300 Mbit traffics, pcq queue. Appreciable approximately productivity increase it was not possible to reach, on the contrary during some moments the router freeze, Winbox started to brake, few times fell off handle. Loading of the processor did not exceed 60 % on ICH57 chipset, the two-core i5-650, Intel Pci-express x4 Dual server network adapter, from here it is possible to draw output that with multicore too all remains on former. Returned to 3.30.

V4 seems to have issues with certain Intel cards, just got bid by that myself. Had huge amount of RX errors (130k+ errors in a 24 hour timeframe), with no errors on the switch port, where the interface is connected to. Backed down to 3.30, no issues then.

So I'd be careful using v4 with the hardware configuration Helios describes. V4 works well on the Routerboards, though.

CISCO Release IOS15.0M and It contain DHCP Authentication function(RFC3118). I Believe it will be great help for ISP's CPE developmts with Midium-to-Large scale networks.

DHCPv6 or some other protocol is needed to supply IPv6 addresses to the LAN side of the customer router/access-point. IPv6 auto-addressing gets IPv6 address to the WAN side of the customer router.

It's not clear tough what protocol is going to be the standard for the LAN-side IPv6 addressing... if ROSv5 provides DHCPv6 relay services (which is easier than in v4 due to new DHCPv6 design), one could use some other DHCP server to supply such addresses, at least until a clear winner is established in this field.

Through IPv6 advertise you can give users IPv6 addresses and dns servers using RouterOS, and it is not DHCP
