Supout.rif reader available

Wed Mar 17, 2010 10:22 am

We have made a simple supout.rif file viewer. To use it, log into your mikrotik.com account, and click on "supout.rif viewer":

Image

This online utility is only accessible online from within your account, and will show the contents of the supout.rif file. Things available are configuration export, logs, resource info, registration tables, connections, license info and others.

This utility will provide great help for those who help others, consultants, distributors, ISPs.

Be careful! Don't give your supout.rif files to people who can't see your configuration and inner workings of your network. Although passwords are hidden, some sensitive information can still be seen!

The Supout.rif viewer can open up to five files at the same time, so you can switch between tabs and compare them. The files will be kept in their opened tabs even if you switch your computers, so you can keep a file there as long as you want. When you want to free the tab, just close it, and the file will be gone forever.

If you find any issues with the viewer, please post here, or email support.

What about a backup file viewer?
I have a lot of backup files from my rbs, but if I just want to see one configuration
I have to restore that backup on a rb to see it.
That would be nice.
Thanks for this viewer!

backup file reader doesn't exist, even we at mikrotik don't have it. you can only restore from backup, not view it.

for viewing make supout.rif files and export files.

Ok then, I will change my backups scripts to add the export file and send me both by mail.
I think the backup is better for restoring than export, but export will serve as well.
Thanks for advice.

A question to ask, when i create the back up file from the routerA, and i upload it into the routerB. when i apply (restore) the routerA backup file to routerB, for the wireless card part, i need to manually to configure again.

What's going on this?

Backups are only for restoring the exact device they were taken from, they are not to be transferred to other hardware. If you need to transfer to other hardware, use "/export", which you will still have to manually edit (MAC addresses, for example).

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Co ... Management
The restoration procedure assumes the cofiguration is restored on the same router, where the backup file was originally created, so it will create partially broken configuration if the hardware has been changed.
In my opinion that's the biggest problem with RouterOS functionality, barring bugs. The configuration management is absolutely horrible.

@angboontiong I think its the MAC address, if you grab the Wi Fi card from A and put in B before restore, it should restore its config as well (same MAC) or if you change the mac with the RouterOS command beforehand (just dont bring two same MACs into same network)

@Normis can't you develop and exploit a vulnerability to decrypt .backups for viewing @ the mikrotik.com account? It will be done @ your server so it will be unknown to everyone. Such vuln exists for a certain purpose (angel) at elast in the past versions.... Sorry for going a bit guerilla here but I need to be able to see and compare the backups.

Great feature! Bumped into it when I was on the account server...

I support several clients and I usually ask them to send me an Export script, but this is so much easier.

Thanks guys...

I guess there are concerns about the banks in Latvia. Now I see where Normis keeps his money. :)

All my supouts that I tried show the garbage entries.

Im guessing its the hidden information that MT made the supout viewer not show to us. :)

Me too always thought that backup file viewer in an application similar or even identical to winbox would be nice. I also have lots of backup files stored and sometimes it would be very useful to check them out, compare, etc. Ability to modify settings and then save them to that backup file before uploading it to the router would make life easier occasionally.

Mikrotik are doing great job already, and every additional application to help out us admins are very welcome.
I really miss more tools and flexibility of configuration management. Moving from one router to another without pain is almost impossible whatever means are used (config export, backups).

This new supout file viewer partly provides that functionality (I mean preview settings stored in supout file that was generated in particular router), so thanks for that :)

I have 2 suggestions for this nice reader.

- Add "\" into multi-line command. Right now it is like this and easy copy&paste is not possible
add name=read policy="local,telnet,ssh,reboot,read,test,winbox,password,web,sn
iff,sensitive,api,!ftp,!write,!policy" skin=default
fix:
add name=read policy="local,telnet,ssh,reboot,read,test,winbox,password,web,sn\
iff,sensitive,api,!ftp,!write,!policy" skin=default
- Export to TXT. Export all things into one TXT file. Or just add a "Select all" butto, which will select all of the settings for simply copy/pasting :)

Anyway, thanks for the reader :)

Nice, but an offline viewer would be better.
Is there something in planning?

The architecture of filesystem seems to be public or where did this guy got the source for his viewer ( did not try it with my supout files)?
http://k3dt.eu/supout-reader/ (not serious to upload the supout file on any website)

AFAIR, supout.rif file consists of length-value blocks with value data being compressed by gzip

Here are some offline scripts to decode supout.rif files:
Perl: https://github.com/farseeker/go-mikroti ... r/unsup.pl
Go: https://github.com/farseeker/go-mikroti ... er/main.go
Much better than uploading it to some shady server for analysis... supout may contain various private info.

EDIT: Changed link to perl and go script instead of github page that offers weird EXEs for download (do not download and run them, always use source code).

Not my github, but there is source code there. It's possible this is just a false positive but I would not trust any random EXE anyway.
Just don't download the EXEs, download perl and go sources. You can look and inspect the source code as long as you want.
I only used the perl script version on linux and that works.

I've been using the Perl script on Windows for years with ActiveState Perl and it works to. It's just that I don't need Perl for anything else anymore, so mine became a little outdated and I can't vouch for current version.

Another option could be https://github.com/0ki/mikrotik-tools/b ... _supout.py, but it doesn't work for me. Although that could be just my problem, because when it comes to Python, almost nothing works, that thing just doesn't like me, maybe I'm cursed.
