RouterOS v4.10 released

Mon May 31, 2010 12:03 pm

What's new in 4.10 (2010-May-28 13:59):
*) added support for ethernet switch configuration in WinBox;
*) allow to configure 11n wireless rate tx powers in WinBox;
*) dhcp server - show non-printable option 82 agent-circuit-id and
agent-remote-id values in hexadecimal notation also in winbox;
*) api - fixed '/ip/route/print', was not showing '.id' values;
*) console - fixed printing of OID values;
*) lcd - added support for AX89063
http://www.mikrotik.com/download/router ... 10.torrent

for all RB800, RB1000, RB1100 please UPGRADE THE BOOTLOADER. This is very important, as it fixes some random memory issues. New bootloaders are on http://www.routerboard.com or as usual - simply type "/system routerboard upgrade" with the new v4.10 installed

Have you made any changes for MAC-Telnet?
In winbox it always losses focus on the telnet window (goes to another windows, for example log or interfaces...).
Tested on RB433 with Winbox.exe 2.2.16

Also I would like to know if there is any differences in BRIDGE interface (see my post http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42053)
Now I can confirm it works ok on 3.30 and is broken on 4.9.

I know people who want to switch from v3 to v4 right after NF sequence number will be fixed )) how should they get to know that if it's not mentioned in changelog? =)

also, as for NetFlow v9 - incorrect Data FlowSet Length (with some garbage padding) is fixed too. I hope NetFlow v9 sequence number will be fixed soon - it's still broken =)

My tests show incremental improvement (nstreme;WDS;XR9;PtMP) 4.5->4.9 (no extensive pocket loss in logs;still requires to choose datarates)->4.10 (SNR signal weaker -by 3dB- for some reason but link seems stable and works- so far- with data rates set to default)

UPDATE:
I decided to revert back to 4.9 since I don't see immediate benefit in my tests and 3dB signal loss bothers me.

I looks like the IPv6 Router Advertisement on bridge bug has been fixed. Now running ROS 4.10 on RB433AH and it seems that RA packets are being sent as expected. So I let it more time.

Does this mean we can "manually" select the high-TX power rates on the SR71-15 cards? I heard that could damage it if you go higher than the defaulted rates....

IPv6 Router Advertisement is still broken in ROS 4.10. It worked only for a few hours. Than failed again.

At 8.30 wifi card has been enabled by scheduler. Log claims that RA has been sent, but it isn't true.

MikroTik guys, please again, fix it.

Update: RA stops to work when my ath0 device is enabled and part of the br0.

Hi janisk,

Configuration look like this br0 = ath0 + eth1 + eth2, where br0 is local LAN and eth0 is WAN interface. There is a NAT between LAN and WAN. ath0 is Wistron CM9 WiFi card which is disabled by scheduler script at 23.30 and enabled at 8.30.

I described this issue in more detail in this thread:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=38166

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

hhuummm good news... no more extensive data loss.... i will do same tests with PtP;Bridge;nstreme to see the results and see IF 4.x is finally usable and finally i can abandon the really stable version 3.30....

I do not see the report or request from you, that this device should be supported at MikroTik RouterOS 4.10.
If you have this card in stock and want to see support for it in the next RouterOS version, contact us with attached support output file, which is generated when card is plugged in.

If the 3G card is not listed here,
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported ... e#3G_cards
There is little chance that particular card is working.

However we may add support for the card, when you will be able to provide us with support output file/access to the router.

Re: RouterOS v4.10 released

Fri Jun 11, 2010 12:31 pm

I am a fairly new user of Mikrotik and have been using the extremely stable 3.3 version. I have been aware of the v4 series for a while and even knew of the 4.5 and 4.6 releases. In fact, all of my RB400s are now coming with 4.5 installed. Excuse my ignorance, but first...why are the 4.5 and 4.6 versions removed from MK's site, and second...what is all the hype about the 4.1 when there are 4.5s and 4.6s floating out there?

Also, is it honestly worth upgrading to the 4.1 from 3.3 when v5 is just around the corner? I guess it all depends on how much of 4.1's new features you would actually use and how long of a wait it will be until v5 is solidified.

thank you for your replies.

Re: RouterOS v4.10 released

First of all, please go and drink a glass of cold water and open the window to let some fresh and cold air in. Version 3.3 - do you mean version 3.30 ? Because there is a huge difference from 3 to 30, OK ? And version 4.10 and 4.1 - which one do you realy mean? 10 is more than 1. In fact 1+9=10 :) OK? And 5 is less than 10, OK?

And to answer the question - if your system is working - leave it as it is - this is the IT best practice way. Of course you could check all the changelogs* up to the latest versions and you could see an addition and a fix to a feature that you are using, or you could see a new feature that you would like to use. Then you could upgrade. Carefully. If the unit you want to upgrade is far away from you and something happens to it mid-upgrade - it will be dead and you will have to go to recover it. So if that is the case - don't do it.

Usually I just upgrade (I mean update really) everything. It's my own best practice and I plan and I can take it if every one of the possible failures occur.

*Changelogs for RouterOS do not include all changes, but the major and important ones

Re: RouterOS v4.10 released

Fri Jun 11, 2010 7:51 pm

Thank you both! I guess I should be reading these in binary progression as opposed to decimal. :? I was taking it as 4.10 (.1) in decimal is actually less in value than 4.5 in decimal. It makes sense that it would mean version 4 - release 10; which in fact would be much higher than version 4 - release 5.

Thank you for laying it all out. Much appreciated.

I am using 3.30 most successfully; however, there are some very peculiar things happening with about 30% of them. It is an extensive data loss issue with subscirbers who have awesome signal levels, great Ack timeouts, and great CCQs. They are just randomly disconnected due to "extensive data loss." I have tried changing a lot of options on both the AP and CPE including using the NStreme with the all MK links...all with no success. This may/may not even be a MK issue as I am using XR2s, 5s, and 9s in my APs with NS2/5 & MK+XR9 CPEs. The troubleshooting continues... :?

On a side note...anyone have a coparison of MK R52Hn's capabilities to UB's new AirMax systems? Interested in finding advantages/disadvantages of both!

Thank you all again for your clarification.

ecliptixnet I think the differences are obvious.

And the disconnects - it could be hacker/or-just-someone-with-free-time activity, easily.

It adds configuration switch for the Winbox, as previously you can apply configuration from console only.
Ports are not added to the switch by default, isn't it?

If your current license is legit - yes. Follow the procedure and upgrade.

Normis, our forum is legal too. Its not an official MT forum but its kinda better - its an authority on "ISP" for Bulgaria.

I mean, to be able to use 65535B packet size. See http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=40743 The answer from support was that disabling the IP175D features would not bring any benefits other than be able to use 65535B packet size and I suggested to put it configurable somewhere via console/winbox. But I guess this release implementation does not sort this out.

I would like to comment on this latest release. I have been fairly impressed with what 4.10 has done for my pair of 802.11n nstream ptp links. I also have recently deployed a 5GHz sector and am running v4.10 with 5 clients and counting with good quality, throughput etc.. On the other hand I have a tower with 3 2.4 sectors on three non overlapping 120 deg 20MHz channels and could not get stable connections/speeds/CCQs on even the very short range customers. Downgrading to 3.30 was the quick fix to this problem. I'm not sure what was causing this, but as this was a production environment I didn't have time to futz with it.

Futz. I am not pleased to hear about bad news and problems. Futz futz :)

You should try (please do) again 4.10 with reset wireelss settings, and re-configured aonly the basic things like channel and SSID and whats needed for the clients to connect. From there, if results still are poor - try setting a manual distance/ack-timeout.

Don't give up on finding the truth. Do the tests at night if you have to.

Unfortunately these features can only be disabled by hardware modification.

Hi

I just installed v4.10 to 411AH and 433 link - and finally I've got n-stream working at list accessible.
It was huge headache for me.
We will see what will happens at the evening when maximum users on-line, but hopefully it will works ))

v4.10 Indicates an incorrect voltage.

Just update:
n-stream douesnt work under load - to many losses. Ping OK, but not usefool in this case.
(I trying to use link between to routerboards with MPLS bridge, about 4 km, signal -60, ccq 95%)

In my experience – I didn’t ever have any success with Wi-Fi on mikrotik - link between two nanostations works more stable and more productive.

Maybe you should replace something. It's an ongoing game to find the deffective part of the system. Replace a cable. Replace a pigtail. Replace a card. Replace a RouterBOARD, Replace a PC, change the frequency, change a setting, change the roof, replace the people, change the businnes, replace your head amd put on an upgraded one that has always been using nstreme as stable as 100%.

I’ve got very nice respond from NetworkPro, but it Friday night and this sound to me like joke.

I can add some details: We have 3 routerboard 433AH (with superchannel licence) and 2 routerboard 411AH.
We try 4 different places with different topography.

Currently we using one 433AH with 2 sector antennas (120*) just like access point and it just working.
We have another 6 places where we try to do same, but simple nanostation2 give us stable 8mb for access point.

At this moment main our main target is create link for remote networks. We have license for some frequencies and we unable to use 5gz (only 2.4). I create WDS and MPLS links but unfortunate I can’t get it stable yet.

My boss an about to give up from using mikrotik for this purpose, but I try to make it work.

Also we try 3 different brands of wifi cards. 2 times we losing cards at one of our access point, but our technical guy restore it, any way we use nanostation at that place.
So, now I have 5 (same) wifi cards and 4 mikrotiks and just can’t create stable link with n-stream.

If anyone ever had some troubles I will be very appreciated for any advice.
Can anyone tell wich wifi card better to use for n-stream?

CM9 :P

But the problems are for point to multipoint or for point to point ? :) Usually when someone would have a problem would post a thread with his question, giving complete detail about what the situation is :) So anyone could have a chance to respond directly in that thread :)

For point to multipoint, all devices must be nstreme enabled (mikrotik) to gain benefits.

Why use WDS and MPLS ontop of WDS. While you're at it why don't you add a VLAN, an IPIP tunnel, a EoIP tunnel ontop of that, a PPPoE inside that, an IPSec inside that and an PPTP inside that one. He he :)

I just use routing. Layer 3.

I try to create point to point link.
I didn’t use WDS+MPLS! I was trying WDS before, but now I create MPLS bridge.
Something like this:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Transpare ... using_MPLS

And actually point to point link is working.
The problems begin when hi load traffic running.
Ping is ok, 1-5 ms, but as soon as more traffic start running packets start dropping (ping around 100-200ms) and wifi card disappearing and running up again – causing disaster ))

And I try it on different mikrotiks and on 5 wifi cards.
If I disable n-stream packets didn’t drop at all but actually speed around 6mb.
(Just in case: I’m using fixed rate 54/54, fixed scan list, manual tx power and CSMA is disabled)

Why disable CSMA?
I usually din't need to use a fixed rate.
Of course I lower the tx power every time.
Some wifi cards work better when used with a x86 router. Some second hand PC. I think its because of the more power they can draw through the motherboard of the PC and the PSU.
But if the wifi card itself disappears - surely this is a hardware problem.

You have only 4177 V? What is this against 43859 V!! :) It's not safe to touch to these devices under power... :)

Hi all

I've got solved nstream issues:
I've had lost packets between two links when to many users was on-line.

I changed wifi cards, a lot work with settings, changed os to 5.3 beta - but it doesn't help me 100% (I mean I've got positive but packets was still missing)

After a week I have notice a key to my problem:
(I hope it helps other people)
I have locked data rate to 54mb and wifi card to G-only mode, so when CCQ was low station just
disappeared and of course lost packets.
After I change wifi card to mode B/G and add 11mb to data rates - packets stop vanished!
Also I add 18mb to data rates, but it very individual - I still play with it.
Unfortunately ping now too high (50-300) When AP and station talks at 54mb - ping are 1-15ms but when data rate drops to 11Mb ping increase (( .

I think I have to sort out why CCQ drops and after that I will have nstream 100% works!

ps. Is anyone noticed problems with superchannel on 5.3 beta?
pps. Sorry for my broken English
