RB433 - Wireless Interface Anomalies

Fri Jun 25, 2010 3:04 am

I have 12 identical RB433's w/ R52h wifi cards. Running OS 4.5.

Each RB433 has a HughesNet HN9000 on the Ether1 interface and the R52h hosting DHCP service and hotspot. Ether 2 and 3 disabled.

In two of my locations I have consistently been experiencing an issue where the wireless interface stops responding. The SSID shows up but the users cannot obtain IP. For a test I tried to do a static IP on a laptop and connect but could not communicate back to the router or get the hotspot login page to display.

During the times we experience these issues I can VPN remotely into the router over the internet - so I know the problem is at the wireless interface.

Other times the wireless interface continues to work as expected, DHCP server works fine, hotspot login page is displayed - but all attempts to access a website result in a timeout message. Again, we can come in via internet over the HughesNet so we know the internet connection is up.

Again, only two of 12 units have this issue.

The only resolution so far is to do a reboot of the router. I also was successful a few times just disabling and enabling the wifi interface.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

Was onsite at one of the locations experiencing the problem and noticed that the Wireless Interface shows as enabled but not running under Interfaces. The only resolution is a reboot.

Please, any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

Be sure to open terminal window and type:

sys rou upg

answer yes, then do a system reboot.

This ensures that the boards firmware is up to date.

If you continue to experience the problem, try reseating the radio cards.
If the problm persists the try moving the cards to a different mpci slot.
If still NO GO, then replace the radio cards with known to be working cards.

I have just performed the fw upgrade to 2.23 on one of the RB433's. Where are these fw upgrade changelogs kept? I poked around Mikrotik website but was unable to find any information.

Thanks,
Scott
