Can I use Mikrotik Instead of Cisco router?

Sun Jul 04, 2010 4:04 pm

Can I use Mikrotik RouterOS instead of Cisco router to make an access server?

I use this hardwares to provide a dialup service in my isp.
1.Cisco AS5300
2.XAVi G.SHDSL modem
3.Radius server

and now I want to use mikrotik router.os instead of my Cisco AS5300.

Can I do this by FarSync_TE1?

Yes, that farsync card should be supported in RouterOS. Not sure about the rest of the requirements, don't know much about those mentioned ciscos.

My approach:
Old PC, RouterOS on it, box of beer, me on it, configuration, trying, then asking for a specific problem, if any.

Old PC doesn't cut it if you need millions of PPS and major BGP feeds

Well, first you need to TEST that dial-up perversion anyway, right?
How to do it, if no with an old PC and trial/cracked RouterOS?
Then, if it works with couple of users, you try to switch the dial-up pool over to an allready configured RouterOS, which is bought legally.
I never experiment such major changes with a working system.

Normi, where do you got the hundreds and thousands of users? Look at his HW.

I'm also interested on this question, if I can use Mikrotik instead of CISCO. But my decision parameter lies on BGP:

CISCO config
no bgp enforce-first-as
Can Mikrotik do this?
