DNS won't resolve for the first time

Fri Sep 16, 2005 6:17 pm

Hi, recently i try to route my clients to ask dns request from my server whis is 10.0.0.1 and here's my configuration :

[admin@Solusindo] ip dns> print
primary-dns: 202.43.160.50
secondary-dns: 203.130.193.74
allow-remote-requests: yes
cache-size: 2048 kB
cache-max-ttl: 7d
cache-used: 258 kB

My dns is working weirdly. It would resolve web request, but when we access some web that has never been open by us, it would not resolve until we click the refresh button on explorer. But the next time we access the same web, it would resolve like normal. Why is that so? Is that normal for it? And i wish to ask, the cache-max-ttl is 7days, does it mean that if we have not access the web for more than 7 days, the dns cache would be remove? How can we avoid this? Thank you very much.

And another thing i wish to ask. How can i transparently bridge my eth and wlan (on RB500) so my RB500 is acting like an outdoor AP (without routing) just like any other standalone outdoor AP? Please help me.

Check that both of the following can be used from your router, I cannot reach either one from here:

primary-dns: 202.43.160.50
secondary-dns: 203.130.193.74

If one is accessable and the other is not then you will have problems 50% of the time. Try using DIG or NSLOOKUP on each to verify you have connectivity to them all the time. If not, use another dns resolver.

Hi, from my side i could reach both of the them very well. I have tried to use a computer without passing mikrotik and point the dns to these server and it works fine.

Here's my nslookup result :
*** Can't find server name for address 10.0.0.1: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Server: UnKnown
Address: 10.0.0.1

Name: ns1.dtp.net.id
Address: 202.43.160.50

*** Can't find server name for address 10.0.0.1: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Server: UnKnown
Address: 10.0.0.1

Name: nsbtm1.telkom.net.id
Address: 203.130.193.74

Is it because my server name haven't been entered yet (non-existent domain)? How can i solve this? Please help me, thank you very much
