PPPoE and throttling

I am using PPPoE to authenticate my customers. The PPPoE server is the MT, using 2.9.2. I have them setup to rate limit, but would like to use a queue to allow them to burst, is this possible? How would I do it.

From the manual:

rate-limit (text; default: "") - rate limitation in form of rx-rate[/tx-rate] [rx-burst-rate[/tx-burst-rate] [rx-burst-threshold[/tx-burst-threshold] [rx-burst-time[/tx-burst-time]]]]. All rates are measured in bits per second, unless followed by optional 'k' suffix (kilobits per second) or 'M' suffix (megabits per second). If tx-rate is not specified, rx-rate serves as tx-rate too. The same applies for tx-burst-rate, tx-burst-threshold and tx-burst-time. If both rx-burst-threshold and tx-burst-threshold are not specified (but burst-rate is specified), rx-rate and tx-rate are used as burst thresholds. If both rx-burst-time and tx-burst-time are not specified, 1s is used as default

so rate-limit=16k 128k 64k 300 would allow them to burst to 128kbps burst threshold 64k with 16k guaranteed bandwidth they'd be allowed to burst for 300 seconds.

I am using the PPPoE server in the Mikrotik. Am I going to have to build an external Radius server to do this, or can it be done using only the MT?

you can configure rate-limit using only MikroTik RouterOS.

I have a question, I would like to do the same as jdmarti1, but I noticed that when I create a profile in ppp profiles it creates a simple queue for each connection, now if I double click on that simple queue I can make the burst work but once the user disconnects its back to the profile rate. Now, I dont know how hard it is to make or add the burst on the ppp profile so the people that use pppoe can right there make the busrt work by profiles used.

By the way, how would we do this right now? make busrt work with pppoe amn its profiles? Wouldnt it make two connections for the users? If possible can you give us a hand on how to make it work.

RouterOS 2.9 has provision for rate-limit in ppp profiles. This will allow for bursting in the individual queues.

I actually found out that you can paste this:
192k/256k 256k/384k 128k/128k 30/30
In the rate limit box in Winbox. Makes it very easy. When you look at Winbox - you would not think it was an option, but it works great.
