What's new in 5.0rc5 (2010-Dec-01 07:47):

*) logging - added email-starttls option for email target;
*) pcq - added burst settings, like in "/queue tree" and "/queue simple";
*) pcq - can specify address masks for pcq;
*) pcq - added ipv6 support;
*) wireless - fixed WPA;
*) radius - fixed encryption key decoding for wireless EAP & PPPs;
*) winbox - make keyboard work right away after main window is activated;
*) snmp - fix BER encoding for negative INTEGER values;

Confirmed on a couple of x86 routers upgraded from RC4. User Manager fails to activate the store.

Also it says "User Manager Test" when you try to login via web.

I found that to upgrade w/ dude, you have to do a force upgrade, otherwise it says not all packages available, when the only package on the routers is the routeros-ARCH.

Otherwise, got about 40 routers on it now.

Hi,

Yes, you are right, because E8400 doesn't support hardware wirtualization (VT-x). Change CPU to VT-x capable and KVM will work.

Re: RouterOS v5.0 RC5

Fri Dec 03, 2010 11:23 pm

Here's what I've noticed on RC5.

- My TCP Throughput increases on NV2, PtP. I can push 214Mbps UDP! (only 100Mbps on nstream)
- Latency increases to 5-10ms on NV2 (was 1ms with just plain Nstream)
- Signal strength decreases on NV2 (-48 on Nstreme, now -54db with NV2)

- Another BIG issue that needs fixed, I see a weird ARP issue. When the PtP link is up using NV2 and WDS, I loose IP connection to all other devices past the PtP that are on the same IP subnet. Clearing ARP on our core router brings back those IP's, but are lost again within seconds, and the IP addresses appear on the ARP on the Mikrotiks instead, its as if our Core CISCO router and the Mikrotiks are fighting over the IP's on ARP. Switching OFF of NV2 and back to just Nstreme fixes this problem..

Latency will increase on NV2 link's due to the nature of TDMA, atleast 3-5ms

Aside from fixing the WDS issue as mentioned in my previous post, are there any plans on adding the "P Throughput" statistics for NV2 like Nstreme has? It comes useful in knowing approximately how much throughput to expect rather than flooding the link everytime with a bandwidth test..

Hi, KVM isnt work with Intel E8400 cpu.
same issue here. I had working VM on one core of my celeron E3300 - now it's unsupported.

and the other thing: I've downgraded again back to beta1, because all other beta's and RC's have problems with simple queue's - eventually they stop counting (in a few hours). on beta1 they are working well for couple of weeks before they stop to count. then my script detects it and reboots the router.

Don't wait very low latency from nv2 (tdma) but here a saw a more uniform latency across a large bandwidth range. I would like to see support to COA packets in ppp radius, no just in user manager. Overall the systems are very stable at rc5, routerboards and x86, but i don't use user manager. Someone testing bgp? I'm too scared to test on my rb1000. PS: i confirm the problem with bridge filters.

I see some differences, with 5.rc4 I had max 65Mbs (NV2+WDS), now its 75-90 which ofcourse is good.

The native bridge filter don't works, just the firewall ones if ticked "Use Ip Firewall". Just tested in x86 here.

WDS with NV2 isn't working quite right. ARP with IP's of same subnet is going to Mikrotik instead of passing through like a transparent bridge...

Tried WDS/Nstreme on a RB500 -> RB500 permanently rebooting without traffic.
Changing from Nstreme to 802.11 RB500 stays alive.

What bridge filter rules are not working for you? I cannot reproduce any problems on Routerboards or x86.

This, for example:
chain=forward action=log mac-protocol=ip src-port=0-65535 ip-protocol=tcp
This works:
chain=input action=log mac-protocol=ip src-port=0-65535 ip-protocol=tcp
All interfaces in the bridge are vlan's.

The "Traffic" graph for Wlan interface ONLY shows Tx Rate, Rx Rate is broken, stays at "0 bps" while using NV2.

I believe that this is overall problem of 5'th version - not counting traffic. Must be related to my "simple queue's" post in this topic and also to torch issues in previous RC's.

Mikrotik v5.0 RC5 cannot send email.
ROS on x86 + Core 2 Duo + RAM 2GB.

Which v5.x can send email ? I have to use send mail for my SLA monitoring.

Signals drop and CCQ goes from 80% down to 15% or sometimes single digits on the same client. It isn't only NV2 that does it but the NV2 wireless package in V4.13. NV2 works very well for about 4-8hrs then it tanks, I have done just about everything I can to try to figure it out and I am finally throwing in the towel and rolling everything back to non NV2 wireless package. It really is a shame too because when NV2 works it does some pretty amazing stuff speed wise. But it is way too unstable for a production setting and with it being in a stable release 4.13 it should be stable IMO.

NV2 has been performing pretty great for me the past 2 days with my PtP backhaul. Of course, this is a 2 mile link and I had to get larger dishes to get the signal down to -51db.

With just regular Nstream, dual-chain, my data rates were all over the place ranging from 107Mbps-HT/160Mbps-HT, with signals down around -48db (how good do you have to get it get the full 300Mbps data rate lol)

With NV2-Nstream, data rates are a SOLID 270/270Mbps, and I can push almost 200Mbps UDP SEND and 180Mbps UDP Receive, which I am VERY happy with :)

I just hesitate on trying this on my long-mile links because you lose about 5-10db signal with NV2 for some reason... hopefully Mikrotik can find out why.

I started out with a signal in the mid -60's (panel to panel). Since I wanted to go dual-pol, I had to use a rocket dish and a dual-pole panel I had in stock. Reason for the rocket dish is because twice now, we had some heavy snow storms what caked enough snow on the panel to drop the signal to the -80's and the link would drop. I wanted to make sure this link is bullet-proof.

I have not installed on any PTP links only PTMP. So I can't speak for NV2 in PTP environment.

Signal was -64/-63 with regular Nstreme. After upgrading to 4.15 and turning on NV2, signal drops to -69/-68, and data rates drop to 135/135 (was 150/150).

Also, I tested this using an XR5 link and the signal rates don't seem to be effected by NV2, just only the 802.11n cards (in my case SR71-15).

Currently Nv2 can't use short guard interval so the max data rates for 802.11n are 135Mbps and 270Mbps.

Hai. I have also noticed that the Usermanager doesn't disconnect users when the profile validity is over. If you log off and try log in again it works if validity is over. But if one doesn't log off the machine then he can even use it for 2 months wishing power never goes off. :-) This should be checked by MK. Please ask them.

I see now, but is there a cause for the decreased signal strength? Does NV2 have less transmit power? I know the Ubquiti products can transmit at very high db using TDMA, I was

hoping NV2 would have better signal transmit power, not less.

Other than that, so far I am impressed. Although I only use Mikrotik for PtP applications, I am enjoying the increased TCP throughput with NV2.

You say "currently", does that mean Mikrotik has any plans on implementing the 150 and 300Mbps data rates to be used with NV2?
