RouterOS v5rc8

Thu Feb 03, 2011 8:46 am

What's new in 5.0rc8 (2011-Feb-01 14:03):

*) added led trigger - change leds on different events;
*) snmp - restored access to routing tables;
*) snmp - fixed memory leak for OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2;
*) ipsec - added ipv6 support;
*) removed broadcast setting from ip address;
*) radv - fixed problem when wrong link local address was used
to send advertisements on bridge interface;
*) ppp - make IPv6 work again (introduced in v5.0rc7);
*) ppp - fixed problem when user re-authenticated and traffic accounting
included data from previous session;
*) fixed traffic-flow on x86-smp (could stop sending flows);
*) improved usb modem mode switching;
*) kvm - fixed problem when sometimes virtualization detection fails;
*) routing - route with recursive gateway sometimes was not selected as
active, if another inferior route with directly reachable gateway
was present;
*) bgp - removed "interface" property from bgp peer configuration, now
ipv6 link local remote address must be specified using the
"address%interface" notation;
*) added extended ethernet statistics (/interface ethernet print stats) for RB800,RB1000,RB1100,and RB7xx with AR7241 or newer cpu;
*) wireless - improved 11n compatibility;
*) wireless nv2 - added support for station-bridge mode;
*) wireless nv2 - added area support;
*) wireless - added ability to set registration-table comment using RADIUS
attribute;
*) implemented usb power-reset command on RB SXT 5HnD;

Thank you guys for the LED triggers. At last I can remove all previously used and now obsolete scripts.
Let's see now how this "wireless - improved 11n compatibility" thing works in practice. Still no short GI support, though (bad, bad, bad)! :-?

I've noticed that while using the terminal inside the winbox session and pressing tab command for command completion the behaviour is strange
e.g. /system ssh user[then pressing TAB to complete the word user=] I get 'user%'. Anyone noticed this ?
Looks like IP6 is anywhere :)
[admin@demo2.mt.lv] > /system ssh some.internet.site.name user=root
while resolving ip6: could not get answer from dns server
[admin@demo2.mt.lv] >

BUG?
Winbox (demo2.mt.lv):
PPP->Interface->PPP Scaner
"By default" shows interface "unknown"[/quote]

We found a bug in the station mode for the Nv2 protocol. Please contact the support@mikrotik.com for a test release where it is fixed or use different mode for Nv2 protocol, for example station-wds or station-bridge.

Hi,

IPSec seems to work but I saw that it took 5-7min for my NTP to sync.
Btw have a look at that CCQ... bug or feature? ;)

Didnt specifically check, but they were both set to sync via NTP to the same server. I downgraded the 1100 to 5.0rc7 and it started working again.

Just tried it again and NTP synced right away, but no IPSEC.

IPSEc debugging showed this..

13:20:15 ipsec,debug ignore because do not listen on source address : 1.2.3.4

Where 1.2.3.4 is my wan address.

Seems suspect.

EDIT: I do have IPv6 enabled on this router. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Put a simple ipv4 address in a node with station mode and ipv4 address in another node with bridge or ap-bridge. There's no ping, no traffic, nothing. Change to wds and the traffic will flow.

Now it DID work on my RB450g via IPSEC, but that is a static IP in the router, not DHCP like my RB1100. Maybe that is the issue. IPSEC starts before the DHCP lease is there, then the IP is added and it doesnt want to listen on it? That would explain the error.

Works on RB450g, RB433AH, with DHCP and with IPv6. Just not on my RB1100. Maybe it has to do with using a switch ether port for the internet connection?

Even my RB1000 works fine. I think its RB1100 specific...

Yes, but i need the nv2 because the performance is better. The latency is more constant across a large range of throughput.

try to use station-bridge or station-wds mode if you want to use Nv2 or write to support to provide a test build of RC9

Re: RouterOS v5rc8

Upgraded RB532A from v5rc7 to v5rc8
Since then:
- changeip script does not work anymore (the script runs every minute according to scheduler, every time log says "DDNS: sending update", but it does not update)
- "/system reboot" does not work, nothing happens
- "/system package downgrade" to get back to v5rc7 does not work, nothing happens
- CPU load hits 100% for no reason, then stays there until I unplug power

Practically I got stuck with a non-working v5rc8..

Edit: after a clean netinstall of v5rc8, and not a single configuration line added, "/system reboot" does not work. I stopped further testing here, and went back to rc7 with netinstall.

Please fix this serious issue!

Hi,

I just want to report a recent experience I had with v5rc8.

pppoe doesn't seem to work over nv2 on this version:

Scenario1:
pppoe-server <--> AP(v5rc8) nv2 <--> Station(v5rc8) nv2 with pppoe-client

connetion between pppoe-client and server is not stablished.

Scenario2:
pppoe-server <--> AP(v4.16) nv2 <--> Station(v5rc8) nv2 with pppoe-client

pppoe connection is stablished properly.

mac-telnet from AP to station doesn't work on both cases.

Regards.

what about new usermanager in v5rc8?? is it installing properly & reusable in this version? if no then wtf u guys r doing??? from 8 months not even a single change is done in UM. dev is almost stopped! Expecting for more feature will be stupidity but atleast fix the known bugs. I have seen many MT user complaining about it but never get any help or reply from MT team. People in MT have very bad attitude & always runaway from thier responsibilities. They only like & enjoy to see people in trouble thats y instead of fixing it they r making it more worst. I don't know wat make them so lazy to complete a 20 pages admin panel in 2 years. I don't like to behave so offensive & i don't care if they'll ban me. now a days working on UM is pathetic (MF). I have many issues which i have reported here but it still exist & ignored. I can report them again. If anyone intrested in fixing UM as soon as possible. please support me by mailing MT support & ask them for a fix date of UM Stable release. if you don't have time for mailing just a reply here will be fine :'(

711 with station WDS RC8 would not pass traffic. AP RB800 RC8. It worked fine with AP was at RC7. Weird thing is Rb800 would not go to newer firmware with "sys rou up". It still showed an upgrade available after giving it a sys rou upgrade and the reboot.

On System->Routerboard-> Upgrade, it gives you no indication that it actually upgraded. It should give you a message box that tells you the upgrade was successful and that you should reboot.

In Winbox, it still isn't 100% friendly to netbooks. If you open a firewall filter rule, and go to advanced, you can not see anything below the words TCP Flags because it goes below the bottom of the screen.

The menu was fixed for netbooks a long time ago, but this firewall->filter->advanced page is still too long.

In WinBox, if you click around on the memory and cpu values at the top, and the hide password box, it locks up winbox where you can't do anything. I can reproduce this at least 8 out of 10 times. This is winbox version 2.2.18

Hey guys. I think there was an update done to the RC8 package. The previous .torrent no longer was valid on the tracker. I downloaded a new .torrent and there are changes to the following files:

RouterOS MipsBE
RouterOS PowerPC
ChangeLog5

No changes to the packages though...

Hello.

Explain to me please. How can I make the wrong version of the software? I understand that this is a version of the RC. In my opinion, time does not respect its customers.

User Manager 5rc8 x86 working or no ?
I tested today, Not working. It seems they haven't touched it. RC5, RC6, RC7, RC8 - not working in the same exact way.

UM v5 RC4 - issues that are temporarily fixed by : logout/login all the time + reboot router from time to time.

I have noticed a winbox bug with rc8.I have about 500 arp entries and dhcp leases. When i open arp table it does not show all arp entries or dhcp leases or show it after some time (about minute or two). bug persist on two separate x86 routers

Dear MikroTik guys,

Thank you for the great release.

Please make it so that when we re-login to WinBox, we have the same sizes of elements as when we adjusted them the previous session. Even after router restart/upgrade and even after someone else logs in and messes them up.

Include a "save view" feature in WinBox that would save the view locally on our PC.

I am sick and tired of adjusting the view in WinBox.

I assure you all customers will be very very happy with a "save view" feature!

from http://www.mikrotik.com/download/share/newsletter30.pdf:
The new RouterOS version is almost ready, we have
released the version RouterOS v5rc8 and if no major
problems will be reported, this version will become the
full release of v5
What about The User Manager?

Leds (wireless signal strenght) are not working neither.
contact support for the Rc9 test build or use station-bridge mode.

Yes! +1000

I'm getting sick with this WinBox odd behavior. Not only a "save view" feature is absolutely necessary but also an "export - import view settings". No more time consuming view - column adjustment after every RouterOS update.

Hello,

I have a request to add feature to graph rate graphic of firewall filter and mangle rules. I think it`s very needful feature for who wants to monitor his own created rules and marked packets. I strongly need this feature. Thank you.

The WiFi seems slightly borked in RC8

I have a WiFi access point. Under RC7 with no changes, the PS3 connects fine no problem. RC8 Breaks.

The device is a 493AH with an R52n card doing the AP. I have it set to 802.11b+g

After the upgrade to RC8, my NV2 bridge broke. I had to set it back to 802.11 mode to bring it back up. Nothing I could do in RC8 to make it work again.

I think we might need another RC before calling it stable...As it stands, RC7 was more stable than RC8.

In other news, IPV6 works great over WiFi!

The traffic in vpls RouterOS v5rc8 nv2 doesn't go in stations on v5rc7 everything is all right
In v5rc8 when I switch nv2 to nstream the trafic will go to the stations.
We experienced what seems to be the same behavior on a simple layer 3 PtP link (no vpls) x86<->rb so we switched it to nstreme for now.

Thank you very much for the report.
We are working on the issue.

Ok, a new report about v5rc8. So far I've noticed:

Upgrade from 4.16 to 5.0rc8 fails in many ways.

Some of them:
- vrrp interfaces get the interval modified from 1 to 100.00.
- bgp fails dramatically as IGP is not working properly. If igp is used, the local networks routes get installed and active instead of directly connected ones, this results in a network loop and igp cannot be used properly and has to be disabled.
- vlans on bridge interfaces do not work anymore, they simply have to be set up on physical interfaces.

The most urgent one seems to be the igp problem as it effectivly disables any igp setup.

Also, vrrp on v5rc8 does NOT work with vrrp on v4.16 stable release.

PS: I need a fast fix for IGP (like 2 hours ago). Thanks.

Hopefully v5.0 (stable) will have all bugs fixed and no more features. I think a lot of kinks left.
I recall a post where I mentioned the release name beta vs. rc vs. stable. It seems I might have been right ;) This may not be a "rc" release, but still at the "beta" stage.

Also, please stabilize webfig 100% before finalizing on v5.0 (stable). I strongly suggest not releasing ANY stable version with "beta" components.

Anyway, these are just some thoughts.

Re: RouterOS v5rc8

Wed Feb 09, 2011 2:47 am

Update:
Also, some vrrp IPs do not show up in the routing table at all, the IPs have to be disabled and re-enabled.

As we are using full bgp tables, we've also noticed that some classes do not show up at the other end although they show up in announcements. This does not happen when one full bgp peer in involved but we're using 7 full bgp peers per router and problems are arising.

igp is not shown in advertisments (this problem was also giving us a headache on 4.16)

route filters do not function properly, if there is a new rule involved the session has to be torn in order for the rule to be applied correctly to a peering session. This was also a problem on 4.16 (with more than 2 peers).

So refresh all and resend all do not seem to do the trick (the clear software method does not really work).

We are getting multiple networking loops if we use igp in any way. So we also subscribe to the idea of making it stable (or at least usable) instead of adding features.

Hahaha lol the routers I upgraded with the version I received from support totally went down. I guess the routing process crashed. /ip route was empty. At first it appears to work but then it goes away. I had access with mac-telnet but nothing else.

Drat. I guess it's too late now to downgrade. I'm running the RC9 that I received from Sergejs. It is from today but it doesn't have the -pre label. It does fix a couple of the lack of wireless issues that I had. Well heck, I'll run it now and see how long it runs for.

I would go with RC7 that was pretty stable.

Best way to upload a file (restore old config) is via console + net install + main eth port. Just follow this: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall

Actually I upgraded several routers yesterday early morning.
Just one router that we use as a main router and has a lot of stuff on it failed. Providing details to support now.
And a second one failed but after 10-20 minutes after it was rebooted, so we were able to send a team of technicians on sight to reboot the router and right after that I was able to conenct and downgrade to v5RC8. Of course we switched from NV2 to nstreme to get back our nice CCQ values.
The other ones haven't failed yet.

So far we have no proof that there is any routing problem. Networkpro sent us a supout.rif file which doesn't even have any dynamic routing configuration.

Please anyone, if you see routing related problems in rc9 (which was given out privately), let us know ASAP

try to use station-bridge or station-wds mode if you want to use Nv2 or write to support to provide a test build of RC9
This fix doesn't work for PtMP situations. We have 4 clients in station-wds mode - only one will pass traffic when AP is switched to nv2 protocol.

RC9-prerelease contains a routing bug, maybe that is the cause for this. send supout.rif file to support please.

Interesting problem .... I just added the IPv6 package to me seemingly stable v5.0rc8 493G routerboard and all my L2TP IPSEC VPN's to my remote sites did not come back after a restart.

I then set it to uninstall the IPv6 package, rebooted and they all came back straight away. Just to confirm, I didn't do anything with IPv6, simply installed the package.

Cheers, Dom.

@normis: Do NOT even say that there is no proof there are routing problems.

We have decided to go with 5.0rc8 for further testing to be able to contribute with information to the further development of Mikrotik solutions (which we are big fans of) but you have to agree that when there are multiple people saying that there are routing problems, well, there ARE routing problems. And we subscribe to the point that there ARE BIG routing problems.

Again I will further detail the info regarding problems of v5:
  • - VLANS on bridges do not work AT ALL. Period.
  • - IGP does NOT work properly , bgp routes get active status instead of directly connected routes, which results in traffic being routed in a loop between local routers (we get TTL expired as traffic moves between the routers back and forth), thus breaking any IGP setup, which is very bad. (this does NOT happen on v4.16 on the same configuration)
  • - The previous bug can be avoided by using force-self option on the backup router (in a vrrp setup) and by not accepting route redistribution from the backup router to the main router (basicly breaking the network loop which I mentioned) - this provides a working setup for us for now.
  • - There is also a typo in the "Nexthop Choce" it says propogate instead of propagate
  • - If there are multiple VRRP interfaces, and IPs assigned to those interfaces, the IPs do NOT go into the routing table !!!
    The IPs have to be disabled manually and re-enabled for the dc routes to appear in the routing table. This is a huge bug which also manifests in v4.16 for IPs assigned to vrrp interfaces.
  • - The previos bug also happens for bridge interfaces also on v4.16 stable, I do not know if it happens on v5 as we've disabled bridging as vrrp does not work.
  • - VRRP on v4.16 is not compatible with vrrp v5, multiple routers using different versions of Mikrotik get MASTER status in time, although there should be only one master.
  • - As Mikrotik says in it's documentation there can be only one active route for a single prefix even if multiple announcements are made from multiple providers. Well, in v5.0rc8 we are getting multiple active routes if IGP is used, which also creates problems. Has this somehow changed between versions? Can we have multiple active paths for a single prefix now? Without manually specifying multiple gateways plus check-gateway option? If so, this is good, but the algorithm should be mentioned so we can work with it properly.
  • - Winbox has a problem also: if we check IP / Routes and then we change the routes for some prefixes, we still see the old routes in the routing table. If we close IP / Routes and open it again, the routes show properly, so the internal update function for the routing table does not function properly.
  • - The routing filters have a problem regarding the routing filter number. If there are dinamically assigned rules in the filter, we have such rules by using our own custom scripts for some prefixes, well the route filter NUMBER is just way off and affects ALL route number reads by scripts by a factor of -1. This manifests itself in the following manner: if a new manual route filter is being added, it will not work. You have to add a new "passthorough" rule so that the passthrough filter rule is disregarded and the previous rule is taken into consideration. Please see the image for correct assigment:

  • - We are using 2 i386 systems, so one is Dual AMD, one is Dual Intel. In the Mikrotik documentation it says that once the routes are received or sent through a single peer only one thread (or core) will be active, so that the router will not overload. In V5, AMD works this way, Intel does not. The Intel 2 core CPU is going into overdrive 100% on full bgp feed, thus loosing packets as the routes are received, and even locking up the console.
All of these are serious problems, part of which were also happening on v4.16. I was personally hoping to see them fixed in v5 as they are seriously affection the functionality of Mikrotik as core routers.

As I've said I am a big fan of everything that is Mikrotik so, if you require further testing we are willing to help for a much better product in the future. But really, I urge the developers to subscribe to the idea of leaving the features alone and instead fixing these problems which are are very, very serious.

please read later posts, it's been confirmed and fixed already, see my last post where I say
RC9-prerelease contains a routing bug

Ok then; nevertheless, that is just one dot on a sheet of paper.

Edit: load has gone up +40% with 7 bgp full table peers v5rc8 compared to the load on the same configuration on v4.16

Wow... Serious... BGP bugs seems very ugly... Can I conclude that Dual AMD setups are more stable and have more power?

Re: RouterOS v5rc8

Indeed, AMD moves better with both v4.16 and v5 so we prefer it, we'll soon be replacing it with a quad AMD (it's desktop series CPU do not imagine Opteron series or anything like that), but Intel is dead when full table is used. It's just locked for the time being. Well, at least the one we use.

In any case, we've dropped using v5rc8 because it just does not work properly, it overloads the systems too much, so in case we get a high traffic peak it'll start dropping packets. We also experienced a peer disconnect without any visible reason.

We've tested it as good as possible and those were the bugs WE found. There probably are a lot more, but in any case bgp, vrrp and usual routing functionality should be perfect in Mikrotik for use as a core router, as most customers who use these features are not your day to day dsl subscribers.

I am personally waiting for v5 to grow stable as I find the burst for PCQ queues a most attractive feature.

Re: RouterOS v5rc8 - PPPoE BUG

Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:49 am

hi

I have a server Dell R410, dual processor Xeon quad-core 2.4Ghz with ROS 5.0 rc8 level 6. I did a test with PPPoE server and when he arrived in 1500 simultaneous connections no one else could connect ... what happened?

Here is another bug noticed:

Create simple queue (click + then ok) while pinging. Then remove this simple queue and you will notice packet loss (usually drops 2 packets). The same is with queue tree.

And another: Using RC8 for PPPoE in small part of our network I noticed error: "Could not determine local IP address", occurring random.

Thank you, back in business with rc9 (:

Thank you very much for the report.
We are working on the issue.

Hello MT guys. If possible, please add feature to add static route by address list from /ip firewall address-list. I think many people need this feature. Thank you

mmm?.. something like
:foreach i in=[/ip fi address-list find where list=bla-bla-bla] do={ :local dst [/ip fi address-list get $i address]; /ip route add destination=$dst gateway=SOME_GW; }
?

Use the latest RouterOS (v5RC11 or newer)

Try lowering the tx power when on the table.

Try UDP test if you use the built-in bandwidth test from the units themselves.

Don't give up, some settings combination should work excellent.

Unless there is RF interference - then use spectrum analysis to find good channels.
