I don't suppose any fix for the AP hang-up or bad connections as mentioned in ROS5rc9 thread have been found/fixed?

Bug in long distance links in nv2 (10mhz, 42km): disconnects. Bug in vlan: put 2 interfaces in bridge (ether or wlan), create vlan "on the bridge", all works fine. Reboot the router and vlan traffic will stop. There's no problem in rc7. This just happen with vlan's on bridges, and i need this mode in many routers. Found the vlan bug in rc9 and rc10, don't tested in rc8.
PS: To works after reboot i need disable vlan, disable bridge then enable all.

Crutch for VLAN
To add in automatic loading the following script

/interface vlan set vlan1 use-service-tag=yes
/interface vlan set vlan1 use-service-tag=no

Well and to hope that in following release will correct

We put SR71-A in a couple of x86 and now v5RC9 does not want to upgrade to rc10. It says - router rebooted without proper shutdown. And we can't change any settings on the wlan interfaces - router reboots "without proper shutdown".

 :-?

NetworkPro, attach monitor or COM cable to the router and send the output to support after reboot command (support@mikrotik.com).

petro25, just curios do you have any other interface on the bridge or mac-address assigned to bridge?
When empty VLAN is added to bridge, there is no MAC-address assigned, as soon as admin-mac is set, the same MAC-address is set to VLAN.

I'm not petro25 :D , but in my setup there's 2 ethernet interfaces in the bridge. In rc7 there's no problem.

We had a suggestion problem might be in PCI->miniPCI converter voltage may be selected at 5V where as the cards should be given 3.3V http://ubnt.com/downloads/sr71a_datasheet.pdf

The other thing similar to this is - may be not enough power is getting to the card and we would need to solder fatter wires onto the card to supply the amperage through those.

What you think?

We've noticed a drop in TX/RX signal strengths with our PtP's on every F/W above 4.2. I was thinking that maybe Mikrotik is just calculating the signal strength more accurate, and just reflecting a real signal that is lower, but that is not the case. There appears to be actual power loss when transmitting on the SR71-15 cards. I found this out when I upgraded a 25 mile PtP link where signal on 4.2 was -75db/-77db, and after the upgrade, dropped to -80db/-84db and the link kept dropping and could not keep alive. A site visit and downgrade to 4.2 brought the link back and good again. Will this ever get fixed with new firmwares?

We have improvement:

We suspect issue could be because we had selected frequency 4800 and HT extension channel below control or something.

We removed the miniPCI cards and did a system reset configuration.

Then on clean config we put the cards back in and connected them together, 18km link.

We now have to find suitable frequencies that the NV2 would have good CCQ on.

Yes I have BGP receiving about 4000 routes on a RB1100 with 5.0rc10 as well as OSPF working. Also have OSPF running fine on a RB493AH.

So far (about 10 hours) it seems stable.

I do have MPLS issues on the RB1100, but no idea if these are related, I will email support...

hi
do you run nv2 on your x86 router and if so does it stay connected
on our x86 with hn cards on n the links keep dropping every few seconds

petro25 and pbr3000, thank you very much for the reports.

However I see the same behavior for VLAN interface on bridge at 4.16 and 5.0rc10.

1)
VLAN interface is added to running bridge without any active interface;
- VLAN interface does not get MAC-address, until there is no MAC-address on bridge. Bridge gets MAC-address either by adding running interface to bridge or specifying admin-mac;

2) VLAN interface is added to running bridge with active interface (running state);
- VLAN gets the same MAC-addrress, as bridge got from running interface.

We have found one problem with VLAN on WDS interfaces, we are working on the fix for it, but Ethernet VLANs work correctly.

I don't know if there is anything I can do to solve the disconnect problem:
log.jpg
I have other RB's with other Radio like R52 and it's working ok, but only with R52hn, I get all disconnect reconnect.

the only time i can stop these disconnects is if i manually enter values for "noise floor threshold" but then i will have some
users not being able to connect at all, and some other will connect but can't surf, and some other will connect and surf but
with a very slow rate..

Could all these be the cause because I am using one chain on the R52Hn? I don't know why why why...

Has anyone else giving "Station Bridge" a try? I'm seeing all the traffic from the AP make it to the Station Bridge CPE. If I run a 30M speed test to one customer it shows up as wireless traffic over on the Station Bridge CPE (torch on the Station Bridge CPE WLAN). Fixing Station Pseudobridge for NV2 would make our "day" scratch that, make our year.

v5RC10, x86 with SR71-A - has crashed totally tonight after selecting a frequency around 5900-6100 MHz and HT Above Control. It is not coming back up.

I understand, but i never cared about bridge admin-mac before in this router because until rc7 the bridge works flawless. After each reboot all vlan's just works. I have two ethernet ports in permanent connected state on this bridge (to switchs), then there's always a mac address.

I apologize if this is in the wrong place. In version 4.x the port had a separate column in Torch window. Now the port is merged with the src or dst IP. Any chance of allowing or giving the option to the user to have a separate column for the port in 5.x?

Thanks for Your reply Normis, I upgraded two RB1100 last night to v5rc10 and all went well. This morning i checked PRTG and there is no reading after upgrade.

Just now i upgraded RB411 as a test from v5rc9 to v5rc10 and SNMP works fine on same PRTG.

Could it be RB1100 bug?

Thanks,

Re: v5rc10 released

I've found some more issue(s):

- Disabling a laptop's wireless adapter, sometimes results in all clients disconnecting for the same reason.
- Manually enabling/disabling a laptop's wireless adapter OR turning on/off a laptop will, most of the time, disconnect my DSL PPPoE client interface.

To rule out UPnP, UPnP is and was configured with an external (dsl-pppoe) and internal (lan-bridge) interface like so:
[X] Enabled
[ ] Allow To Disable External Interface
[X] Show Dummy Rule

Here's a log sample containing both issues, one happening after the other during my tests:
22:11:57 wireless, info 00:24:2C:xx:xx:xx@wlan1: disconnected, received disassoc: sending station leaving (8) <== manually disabled wireless adapter on laptop
22:12:03 wireless,info 00:26:5E:xx:xx:xx@wlan1: disconnected, received disassoc: sending station leaving (8) <== happened as a result? (a netbook)
22:12:06 wireless,info 00:26:5E:xx:xx:xx@wlan1: connected <== netbook automatically reconnected
22:12:06 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: terminating... - disconnected <== PPPoE client interface disconnecting
22:12:06 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: disconnected
22:12:06 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: initializing...
22:12:06 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: dialing...
22:12:11 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: terminating... - disconnected
22:12:11 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: disconnected
22:12:11 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: initializing...
22:12:11 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: dialing...
...
22:13:03 pppoe,ppp,info dsl-pppoe: authenticated
22:13:03 pppoe, ppp, info dsl-pppoe: connected <== finally reconnected (I don't think the time it takes to reconnect is MT-related; a cold-boot scenario results in first-time connects with recent versions)
The setup:
[Phone Jack]<--RJ11-->[DSL Modem as PPPoE relay]<--Cat7-->[10/100 Unman. Eth. Switch (Wired LAN)]<--Cat7-->[RB532 mipsle v5.0rc10/bridged with CM9 Atheros AR5213 providing 802.11 B/G with WPA/WPA2 PSK aes-ccm encryption]

With my desktop connected to the same unmanaged ethernet switch, my WinBox stays connected to the RB532, where I can view the log in real-time. (So it can't be a bridge issue, can it? When the last wireless client disconnects, it doesn't disrupt my WinBox connection.)

I'll e-mail support with a supout linking to this post.

you do not have to use
/ping adddress=<IP address>
instead use
 /ping <IP address>
you only have to use address in API sentence, like this:
/ping
=address=<IP address>

Thanks for the follow up. Just so everyone knows NV2 has been treating us great with throughput. 10 711's (all about 3KM) off an RB800 with a R52HN card we get about 30M speed test to each customer. Much thanks MT for this new protocol we just need to iron out the wrinkles before a larger implementation.

before a larger implementation.
You should maybe say "longer distance implementation." ;-)
We had major issues with our long range clients, (1)some disconnect completely, (2)some is unstable and others (3)have bad VoIP call quality. (In order of long to medium range links)
But MT is aware of it (I hope, since I've sent supouts) so I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

Once NV2 and/or the 4.16 nv2 wireless package is fixed, we'll love to replace a bunch of short-range UBNT CPEs with SXTs and upgrade longer links with MT dual-pol links.

RTFM...and it works better now!

Wed Feb 23, 2011 2:38 am

Okay...so I re-read everything on how to setup an 802.11n transparent bridge properly. Turns out that with NV2 it is best to use AP Bridge + WDS on one side and Station WDS on the other. For whatever reason the other way that I was doing the point to point bridge didn't work at all. Best method to follow is here:

For the radio link: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/802.11n_Setup_Guide -- pay close attention to the HT notes -- you can't put your radio on channel 8 and have "HT extension channel", for instance.
For WDS -- this basically works: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Transpare ... o_Networks
No need to create the WDS as Mikrotik does it automagically.

Now using the 2.4ghz band, I see over 200mbps of bandwidth from time to time but I still see a 50% drop overall on my internet connection. On a PC off the main router, I see over 10mbps to the internet. On a PC off the bridge I see 5mbps on average.

I'm going to try to switch it to 5ghz and see how that works.

I see in v5.0rc10 that IP address is not showing "Broadcast" IP any more? (Both winbox and telnet)
Is this v5.x specific?
Any reason for this? (Although never changed it is helpfull while building or troubleshooting your network...)

Why the variable "var" is no longer shown under /system script environment? Is this a bug?

This is a known bug. Avoid removing variables form environment manually for now.

Re: RTFM...and it works better now!

Thu Feb 24, 2011 3:11 pm

What was the first method that you tried to use with Nv2?
Please tell us more about that 50% drop.

I have a slight problem on RB750 with ROS v5.0rc10, I used queue trees for hotspots with 1024k limit and full bandwidth utilization when the loading page will be open very long, whereas the ROS v.4.16 never happened like this. If my setting is wrong then the stable version was bound to happen this way but in the stable version is not the case. Hopefully this can be corrected by the team MIKROTIK.

Following up on my bug report (earlier in this thread) of WLAN clients connecting/disconnecting causing my PPPoE session to drop: Despite my Winbox session staying connected during the issue, MikroTik support and I have determined it to be a bridge issue, whereby once the last wireless client disconnects (or the first wireless client connects), the MAC address of the bridge swaps. I now specify the Admin MAC of the bridge, and so far so good.

WDS-Slave is very unstable. Stops responding, suddenly very high
latency and traffic stops. Drop connection helps for a while.

Also virtual AP does not work on top of WDS-Slave

Had to downgrade to 4.16.

please provide us more info on that problem. What configuration you have? What hw-retries value you have on the AP, try to lower it to 7 or 4.

Also virtual AP will never work on top of station-wds interface, it's not meant to work in this way

I have been running with hw-retries=10. The AP is RC10 an works fine. It's only the
WDS-Slave that is not working in RC10. The station is a simple 411 with L4 working as a repeater.

I like to have the Virtual AP (with dhcp on that interface) on top of the WDS-Slave.
Then I have a Virtual AP with DHCP(hidden SSID) as an easy way to enter for service.
It's been working great until 5.0

Too bad if this stops working with v5

You can't have station and AP modes on one wireless card. StationWDS and VirtualAP will not work on the same interface. It's not a bug, it's something that is not made because it's not possible (at least in v5). It has not worked before.

I'm sorry I been telling the wrong storry. When I've been writing Station-WDS when I
really wanted to say WDS - Slave.

Sorry.....

But the real problem is still WDS-slave with rc10. Something that works in 4.16.

jcem, please email support about that problem, as we are not aware of it.
It would be great if you could send us the support output files from your routers when it is working fine in v4.16.
Then we could try to reproduce it locally.

... a traceroute that looks like there is a route loop.
nope, turns out to have been caused by a NAT rule upstream that cough this traffic in error.

v5 RC up to 9 x86 : USB Flash store - router may stop knowing that it has a USB store and start thinking that it has none therefore reverting to default configs. I suspect this is caused by too long periods of inactivity to the store and that it can be painfully circumvented by enabling graphing to be saved, which would wear out the Flash :|

v5RC10 mipsbe: having an IP on a loopback interface (a bridge interface with no ports) router thinks it has to forward ICMP traffic to its loopback interface so it decrements the TTL once redundantly leading to a traceroute that looks like there is a route loop.
Is this problem repeatable in older versions than v5.0rc10? Is there any device in between? I was not able to reproduce this problem with very simple setup. Perhaps its good idea to send supout.rif file to support@mikrotik.com.

Are you investigating this? This happened on different Intel machines, one was an Atom one.

we see something like that periodically on v3.28 with HDD... graphing is set to be saved each 5min, but after a month or two (2month ago it took about two weeks) HDD can disappear, passwords are reset to empty ones... when trying to issue /system reboot, I get kernel panic almost every time... huh, just my 2c

This issue still happens on v5RC12 of 10th March, with User Manager.

All of a sudden, in the log there are a bunch of errors about not being able to find the database. Then when I check Store - there's nothing there, it's gone.

I am not able to save a Supout - probably because there is no store to save it to.

I am able to click Restart in WinBox to bring the machine back to normal operation.

This happens even when the graphing with saving on HDD is turned on.

Happens on all kinds of hardware (Intel chipsets) where RouterOS is on a USB Flash stick. The USB Flash sticks are all Verbatim, from a good source.

Tested RouterOS versions are all v5 RC ones

We have found one problem with VLAN on WDS interfaces, we are working on the fix for it, but Ethernet VLANs work correctly.
Hi Sergejs

Has the issue with vlan's on dynamic WDS bridges been resolved ? It has been causing me pain the last two weeks.

Ticket#2011032766000014

I have figured out a work-around, but it would be better to get a release with this bug fixed.

Starting from v5.0rc7 there is a bug with VLAN interface not inheriting bridge MAC address. It will be fixed in next release.
