What's new in 5.0 (2011-Mar-31 11:33):

*) route - fixed cause of crashes when handling multipath routes;
*) route - fixed limit on maximum active IPv6 route count,
was causing issues with more than 2000 active routes;
*) ipsec - added command kill-connections under remote-peers;
*) ipsec - fix responder side phase2 negotiation problem
which prevented more than one Windows7 host to initiate SA;
*) fixed vrrp - interface was invalid after undoing remove;
*) winbox - added more detailed /interface ethernet stats;
*) winbox - added ability to send e-mail;
*) winbox - added missing 'set-metric' parameter
in 'Routing/Prefix List';
*) wireless - 802.11 dynamic distance fix;
*) fixed problem - packages could not be uninstalled if disk was full;
*) fixed problem - some of the RouterBOARDS did not reboot properly sometimes;
*) fixed problem - VLANs on bridge interface did not work;
*) ssh - client supports public key authentication;
On MT official site is written:
x86 does not currently support Nv2 (requires RouterBOARD hardware)
x86 may be supported in the future

but i tried in on x86 and it works

Does this include the fix for the RB1100 ethernet port issues like 4.17?

Does it include fix for wireless mentioned in some thread for test ROSrc12 that wasn't officially released?
More importantly, is it working 100%?

Yes.

v5.0 has those fixes as well.

I'll upgade 1 link and watch it for a few days first.
Glad it's released, would love to roll out NV2 on a few areas, already have the SXT's lined up and a few installed.

Thanks MT.

Hello,

there is a SA Lifetime Bug in V5, where the Timezone +2 Hours is added to the time, so a DPD will not work.

Regards Michael

I'll be glad to hear that all vlan bugs were gone into the past.

Some our well working VLAN configs stopped when router was updated to newest RC-versions. I hope that v5 solved problems like that. Hurry to test.

Wireless package install issues.

I upgraded an RB running 4.16 to 5.0 that had the NV2 package installed and when the router came back up it didn't have any wireless package enabled and lost all the wireless settings. Is there any way around this issue?

I lucked out in this case because it was the local side that I upgraded, but it could have resulted in a frustrating truckroll.

one time i updated router trough wireless.
wireless package seems to not be saved or damaged during upload to the router

be in mind to check the list of uploaded packages before "/system reboot"

If you see my post above I think it is related to the previous install having the NV2 test package installed. Hopefully they can fix this quickly.

What version did you upgrade from? 4.X or 5.RC?

My upgrade was from 4.16 with NV2 Wireless package installed.

Seems there is some issue with the ethernet switch functionality on my RB1100
Trunk in on ether1, vlan100 out on ether2
Works with 4.17, stopped when upgrading to 5.0.

I had to return to 4.17 due to customer need, but i'll make a support file to morrow.

I also had the missing wireless package on a few, it seems to be random, even if upgrading from normal wireless package.
But out of 100, maybe 2 or 3 did this. (When previously upgrading from 4.xx to 5.0rcxx)
Doubt if it is reproducable as it rarely, but sadly, happens sometimes from 4 to 5, regardless of wireless-nv2 or not.

Updated two rb433's forming a remote link;
packages: advanced-tools, dhcp, routerboard, routing, system and wireless.
upgraded firmware.

So far so good. Link is running in 5Ghz 10Mhz channel Management protection enabled and 802.11 protocol with set data rates.
Switched link to run with nv2 protocol; so far so good. No probs.
Second unit is also AP, AP running in 2,4Ghz normal 802.11 + WPA PSK/WPA2PSK: No issue so far.

Link is just upgrade in the middle of the night and adjacent network don't see effect of nv2.
Lets wait what the day will bring... fingers crossed..

Winbox still not more user friendly like requested several times by several users. :(
Is it not too late (more versions of 5.x to come :) ) to make winbox more userfriendly?

- Why can't we change window size and content (in wireless registration for instance) and format in such way it also comes back after a reboot in the same way?

- Why can't we open a window in winbox twice? Sometimes you want to put the windows registration column and the access list column side by side to see what is a discrepancy for instance. Now you have to swap between these or you have to open two sessions to the router.

I asked this before and it was promised to take it with develoment of new ROS family. This was in the days of early ros4rc's...

Wirelessrudy, about bridge mode from wiki,
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Wi ... ion-bridge
Mode station-bridge
This mode works only with RouterOS APs and provides support for transparent protocol-independent L2 bridging on station device. RouterOS AP accepts clients in station-bridge mode when enabled using bridge-mode parameter. In this mode AP maintains forwarding table with information on what MAC addresses are reachable over which station device.
This mode is MikroTik proprietary and can't be used to connect other brand devices.
This mode is safe to use for L2 bridging and should be used whenever there are sufficient reasons to not use station-wds mode.

What version of the User Manager is supplied with this?

Normally the "all packages" folder has two versions. This one only has one. Is this the new beta or is it the old production version?

So is it the version of user manager that we've all been commenting about in this thread?

???
You mean I have to test a rc version to see what new options available in the definitive 5.0version??? Besides that I have been working with rc10, 11 and 12 I think you were not awake when you gave that advice! :)

None of these version has the options I (we) asked for that makes winbox more user friendly.

sergejs, I am not referring to of one of the ´Mode´ options in the top of the winbox Wireless / Interface / Wireless-tab window.
I am referring to the new "Bridge Mode" with option "enaled / disabled" only under the "WMM Support" field in that same winbox subwindow.
This is new in ros5.0. If it is the same as the option you can make at the top in that window than why a second button to enable/disable that option again?

Makes not a lot of sense IMHO.

I suppose you mean Intel Ethernet controller is not supported on your Sandy Bridge motherboard.
Currently there is no drivers for it.

Problem on RB133c.
Uninstalled 2 packages (hotspot, mpls) after reboot ethernet comes not back
online. The Switch to which the RB is connected shows link but RB does not
detect link:

[admin@c52] > interface ethernet print
Flags: X - disabled, R - running, S - slave
# NAME MTU MAC-ADDRESS ARP MASTER-PORT SWITCH
0 ether1 1500 00:0C:42:17:90:A3 enabled none (unknown)

Waiting for supout.rif to get written. If it gets done I send it to support.
Not sure it will be written.

Why NV2 is NOT supported under x86? I'ts wireless dependend feature - not processor architecture.
MikroTik - would You want to say : "Don't buy other platforms than RB's"?

No chance. RB133c died while making supout.rif.
Doing a powercycle it came back up and ethernet is
running again.
Found no supout.rif.

Same problem. RB433 4.16 to 5.0 Upgrade Fail (Disconnect)
NV2 package has been disabled

I suppose you mean Intel Ethernet controller is not supported on your Sandy Bridge motherboard.
Currently there is no drivers for it.
Thank you for info. But the second box is not so new and it also has unknown pci devices... Can you help?

I also had same problem on RB133C with ethernet port not connecting. (No registaration R in winBox) 5.0rc9->5
Changed ether port not to auto-negotiate and set on 10Mbps and it came back up.
Will try power cycle when I get there sometime.

Trying to make a supout, will see if the RB133C survive that. lol

sergejs, I am not referring to of one of the ´Mode´ options in the top of the winbox Wireless / Interface / Wireless-tab window.

Please read this section below again and look at the sentence in bold, it will help you to understand that that feature allows or disallows AP to accept station-bridge mode clients.

Updated two rb433's forming a remote link;
packages: advanced-tools, dhcp, routerboard, routing, system and wireless.
upgraded firmware.

These links are still running fine mids of the day with plenty of traffic etc. One by one and little by little I am upgrading now some remote clients (mostly 133C's and 411's) from different AP's and so far no disaster. Fingers crossed!

Upgraded 160 RB133(+C) & RB411, 10 RB433(+AH), 10RB532, 5 RB333, 2 RB750G, 3 RB493AH, 2 PTP links +15km with nv2.
Looking stable and speeds ok. So far.
If all goes well over next few days, I'll upgrade rest of network.
Apart from (small) RB133C ether unregister problem, no other issues.

I have problem with CPU load 100% after upgrading from 4.16 to 5.0 all the time. Before it was never 100% all the time.

I can't upgrade firmware from 2.28 to 2.33. I give upgrade command and get message that it is upgraded sucessfully, and to reboot it. After reboot I see that it is still on 2.28 version firmware, and that available version for upgrade is 2.33.

Also, in winbox new version when I open interfaces windows and ppp window I don't see anything. After some time I get message in this window ERROR: timeout

It is RB750 router. Can anyone help me with this problems.

Sasa

Hi,

There is a still issue with BGP (session only on ethernet/tunnels) and WLAN (no bgp peers), where there switch and someone is present on WLAN and then disconnect.

After this, routing gets 100% CPU usage on RB433. Only way is reboot router.

Support: Ticket#2011021266000179 (sent last supout.rif from 5.0)

I wondering when it's will be fixed, or I have to buy standalone access point.

I think that if the WLAN interface will be always up, even there is no client then should be working without crashing routing process.

Not a joke, it's been noted for at least a few days that it doesn't work with x86... although if you look back, at least 1 person got nv2 to work with x86 anyway.

How was that a near miss??? It is very clearly stated in more than one place:

- x86 may be supported in the future

The x86 DOWNLOAD page of mikrotik officially states:

Sometimes you have to do the firmware update 4 or 5 times to get it to work. That's how I got mine to work on RB750... just keep trying it, and rebooting... and it will finally work.

I am a trusting person. I read the changelog and there was nothing there that I saw.

The x86 DOWNLOAD page of mikrotik officially states:
- x86 does not currently support Nv2 (requires RouterBOARD hardware)

I didn't download the packages. I just implement what my superiors tell me to do. Their instruction was to upgrade the network of close to 1100 routers to ver 5.00 The only reason why I came here was to enquire about the user manager. Anyway, it doesn't make sense to me that Nv2 works well on x86 under 4.17, but won't work on 5.00

And that is why it was a near miss for me.

I have tried about 6 -8 times to upgrade it from winbox and from terminal but no success :-( still trying. I am a always optimistic and I let it work for a day and then try again to upgrade firmware. Maybe it needs to work for little :-) and then will accept upgradde of fw

1) problem EoIP Ceases to pass the traffic (rb750 rb433AH)
The following helps
/interface eoip disable eoip-tunnel1
/interface eoip enable eoip-tunnel1

2) On distance more than 40 km disgustingly work the nv2
Sharply level of a signal falls and level of noise raises. Inclusion interface deenergizing helps
on the bridge rx -70 to -84 noise -115 to -97
on the station bridge All in norm

You interchange the position of base and client options
The picture changes too

Hello Petro

I also have problems with NV2 seems very unstable both in terms of signal levels that the CCQ, if I work with nstreme the link is obviously more stable but also slower.
Initially I used both the chain is 0 and the 1 (0 = Horizontal 1 = Vertical) also I had disconnection problems, but now I'm using only the chain is 0 for TX and RX are able to stabilize the link but I have not solved the problem according to what he says you should have Mikrotik performance and very low latency, I have to settle for 40ms and 54Mb/19Mb

you are wrong, Nv2 is very much architecture dependent, there are many technical reasons which cause difficulties.
... Well I really hope this is an April fools joke...
Not a joke, it's been noted for at least a few days that it doesn't work with x86... although if you look back, at least 1 person got nv2 to work with x86 anyway.
I have been using NV2 protocol on x86 boards since 5.0RC5... I admit, the RC11 wasn't passing traffic on a WDS bridged link (my post here) but a downgrade to RC10 solved my problem.
When did it stop functioning actually?
Right now I have 3 PTP links using nv2, all on x86 boards with RC10.
Even though the OP said, he tried, and got it working, I am afraid to upgrade...
Will somebody from MT staff explain, *exactly* what isn't working with NV2 in ROSv5.0 on x86 boards?

FAIL..

750G.. Upgraded from RC11 to 5.0 by dragging the new file into the file section of winbox and rebooting. Winbox started loosing connection with the router right after reboot. Opening the firewall in winbox produced completely blank pages. Then a disconnect.. I did a power cycle and when I looked at the firewall again with winbox it showed stuff again, but then CPU went to 100% and stayed there. Reboot would stop the 100% but if I did anything it would jump back to 100% again and stay there.

Not sure if traffic went thru it..

Downgraded to RC11 and everything worked fine again..

Ive done all the RC's and never had any problem until now Yea that was a fail for sure...

it never generated a support file

I have upgraded my RB1100 from 4.17 to RouterOS 5.0.
I use SNMP for retrieve data from routerboard. The problem is - while using snmp cpu RB load is about 100%
This image shows RB work without SNMP

Sorry for my English.

Added:
If change snmp trap version from 1 to 2 - CPU load becomes normal.

Again using my 750G Doing a netinstall using 5.0 and using the default settings works. No issues..

Going to paste my settings into the terminal and lets see what happens...

Sometimes I downgrade to 4.something in hope that EVERYTHING on the flash will be overwritten.

Then I try 5.x again hoping that I would get kind of a "clean" install of v5.x and not one that has mixture of different 5.x sub-versions.

A NetInstall to the router is also a good idea in my opinion.

P.S. I recall that earlier with one of the betas or RC's, me and support noticed that there was a mixture of versions on the router which caused SNMP problems.

Netinstall and a loading of defaults with 5.0 and then loading only my required settings from a edited down export of my 5RC11 seems to have fixed things...

So far no issues with 5.0.

Must say tho. I think doing what I did, netinstall + default config and then pasting in scripts to configure might be a good idea. A clean slate is always good... I like when netinstall says "Partitioning and reformatting".

One thing I noticed.. The 750G reports a system health voltage of 2416.9 Vdc. Im pretty sure my dc adapter is not putting out 2.4kV.. :) Well last i checked anyway.. hehehe...

Have you updated the licence to the new 8-digit format?

What is the output of

Hi,

I use the user-manager on ROS 4.16 as radius to authenticate about 180 users via pppoe at my access concentrator.
I would like to upgrade to ROS 5.0 and use the new user-manager. Is there any chance of save the database of the ROS 4.16 user-manager and use it at the 5.0 user-manager? I'm afraid of a complete new setup. Is the "old" database compatible to the new user-manager? Do I have to setup the servers and other stuff new?

Thanks.

Have anyone any idea about this?

I suggest you try it like this:

- backup current working RouterOS config (.backup) and current UM database if possible
- test the backups by restoring them on another router or on a Demo install running on x86 VMWare etc
- If you tested the backup on a licensed installation - try to upgrade that and test
- Upgrade the productions system and prepare for the case its not working OK. Test everything and if you need to - install the old version and restore its backups again.

- Report here if it worked.

Thank you.

It may be safe to assume that it works, EXCEPT in the conditions that we report.

I have issues with Verbatim USB Flash booted on Intel platforms from the past decade. After a while - the Stores are lost and router needs to be rebooted by logging in with just admin<blank>.

I still like latest improvements so 5.0 is in production. On the affected machines - there is a script that auto reboots the router in case event of Store=<nothing> is hit.
Later on I will turn on store debug and make the script send me the logs via email before rebooting the router.

So is the BGP memory leak fixed?

I'm still running 4.13 that came installed on our RB1100, but it's leaking memory running BGP. We're taking full routes from one peer and just default route from another. So about 350k prefixes. Memory use seems to creep up... And now I'm wondering should I just go to 4.17 or 5.0 here.

Netinstall 5.0 on a 450G and 750G worked flawlessly. No problems so far. I did each a few times and they worked every time..

Upgrading from RC11 by dragging and dropping the file using winbox on both failed. 100% CPU, weird winbox stuff, loss of connection from winbox, no autosupport files..

I would like to clear up some confusion about x86 and Nv2 protocol issues that are mentioned on the download page
- x86 does not currently support Nv2 (requires RouterBOARD hardware)
x86 may be supported in the future
Nv2 protocol can be enabled on x86 and will allow this setting in the future. We have had less than ten reports of the problems below, so we consider that it may be an issue specific to certain x86 hardware configurations -- but we can not guarantee that you will not encounter this problem. If you must use an x86 device with Nv2 protocol, it is suggested that you test and monitor a device before deploying it broadly through your network.

These problems may affect clients and APs, but as far as we can determine the issue only becomes a problem when seen on an x86 AP.

We have seen 2 issues with x86 boxes that are using Nv2 wireless protocol on v4.x (with wireless-nv2 package installed), v5.0rcX and v5.X:
1) You will experience unstable performance/disconnections when using x86 router in Nv2 wireless protocol network.
2) We have received reports from clients that their x86 routers hangs/freezes when they use Nv2 wireless protocols on x86 router.

About the first issue - it is hardware related and currently we haven't found any workaround for that.
About the second issue, we were unable to reproduce this problem, that is why we haven't found a solution for that.

Thanks Uldis for taking the time to explain the issue to us all

I've tested 5.0 on a RB1100 with a full BGP feed. CPU is at about 80-100% usage constantly. MT says it has to do with new routecalculation and that it's 'normal'. I'm going to run with three (maybe four) full feeds and will be buying x86 hardware for that.

IMHO, the RB1100 with 5.0 is not suitable for full BGP feeds.

This is correct, that in v5.0 you will see higher CPU usages with BGP. It is due to more frequent nexthop calculations which is made to address several problems where nexthops were not updated correctly. CPU usage depends on how frequently peer receives updates (more frequent updates will cause higher cpu usage).

We are working to improve performance, but until then users who experience too high CPU usage will require faster hardware.

At what moment to do "support output" communication normally only for not clear reason fades or reconect. Sometimes even wotchdog works thus on nstreme 100 % quality
Why on nv2 more low signal level??
Same the transmitter and receiver characteristic instead of the protocol?

So is the 1100AH enough hardware to throw at a full feed BGP router? I do not want to go to x86 hardware, BGP is the reason I bought a RB1100 in the first place... And if I can get the CPU to handle it, is the memory leak still there?

We are not able to repeat any memory leaks in v5.
In our tests RB1100AH handles two BGP feeds without any problems (max CPU usage during frequent updates is 48%). However Jeeves have peers that sends updates more frequently and his RB1100 is unable to handle it (CPU is fully loaded constantly).

Just wanted to say a big congrats to MT on the 5.0 release.

So far in our experiences ROS X.0 releases normally have a major bug or two that take a while to fix or have some big issue that stops us from deploying it on even one production CPE but ROS 5.0 release is the best we've seen out of MT. We've deployed this to RB112 and RB133's running either 2.9.51 or 3.30 because ROS 4.x simply slowed them down too much and made them go funny, upgrading from 2.9.51 even tho it takes a couple of hours to ROS 5.0 gives them a new lease on life, They are fast and responsive and stable.

So congrat's MT this is shaping up to be a bloody good version

It didn't upset me it's just that MT can be lacking in detail sometimes in their answers to questions on here, I've found in my time personally of supporting users that if you tell them why something wont work rather than it just wont work they are happier overall with you :)

Im still after HDCPv6 :)

Just joking. Yes im sure you guys will be very busy in the upcoming weeks.

Im very happy with 5.0. I got used to all the new features over the months with the RC's, I can imagine someone going from 2.9 or 4.x must be really impressed with all the new things... Even the RC's have been pretty polished. Im used to other companies RC's causing bricks and all sorts of serious issues. None of the RC's caused me any issues. This has been a very clean development overall.

Usermanager works, but not 100%, there are a few issues.
If you want to upgrade from 4.xx then be sure you don't have paid customers that have time/vouchers in use... Don't ask...
Also don't try and do it remotely, you'll need new setups and train the persons using it for the new way of doing things.

This is not a major issue, but it is hard to identify the right rule that needs to be changed.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Z

Virtual Ap seem to still be not working. Is this correct?
VirtualAP feature isn't made for the Nv2 wireless protocol. For the rest wireless protocols it should be working.
This will cause problem but will open new topic. Thanks Aldus.

Is there any prevision to fix the OSPF virtual links?
It's not possible to create a multi-area topology without that.

Thanks.

I have updated to 5 version. I have problems with TFTP provisioning.
I receive the "tftp error ERROR code:0 string:permission denied!" and I need to go back downgrading to 4.17 version.
Thank you very much!.

what tftp entries you have? maybe there is something messed up with address part, that will not allow you to read that file? Please check that.

The configuration is too simple.
I have a file called "plus.cm" and only one TFTP entry with Req. and Real Filenameentry "plus.cm".
I do not use regex to write the TFTP entry.
The strange is I have a working 4.17 version, I upgrade to 5 and it doesn't work anymore. I downgrade to version 4.17 and start working ok again. Without any configuration changes.
I you need some screenshot let me know because I have to upgrade to 5 and cut the services (because is a produccion device).
Thank you very much.

Did you set any src or dst address at all? In your case both config windows don't show them.
Double click on the rule to see what is actually set. You'll find much more settings not available in the default colums...

Also try another browser, you are using a very old version of internet explorer, it has thousands of bugs.

Here you are, MT guru's always know more than us! :o
Probably some old sovjet style left over software embedded in MT-Ros to spy on users. Next thing Normis comlains about shoes I'm wearing!

Same problem. RB433 4.16 to 5.0 Upgrade Fail (Disconnect)
NV2 package has been disabled
I had the same problem.

Transferred 5.0 via ftp to two different RB433AH working on 4.17 (bootloader 2.23) with wireless-nv2 enabled and one R52n each: rebooted and then "wireless" package was disabled in both devices, so no "wireless" tab on winbox at all.

Luckily the devices were connected on ethernet as well, so I had the chance to configure both wireless interfaces again (from scratch).

EDIT: Ok, just got the newsletter and seen it's fixed on ROS 5.1. I'll verify on Monday!

I use Firefox on Linux and Chrome on Windows environment with same result :(

Just a short note to say thank you for ALL the effort which has gone into V5.0 (and the pre-releases!!)

We have wirelessly upgraded all our BSS & BST's and not one single hitch..!!

NV2 is marvelous and - generally - this version has improved the flexibility and control on the network enormously.

thanks again and keep up the good work.

btw - RB1100AH.. sheeeeeesh!!! - fantastic.

yep, that 'strange' command gives strange result. correct one is "=interface=ether1", not "?interface=ether1"

Torrent files seems to be "borked" at least for mipsbe architecture, mipsbe torrent is stalled @ 99%.
"ALL" architecture torrent is fully available.

BUT, if you take mipsbe files from "all" and tries to seed them in "mipsbe" torrent, you still haven't all files complete.
Of course, files concerned aren't optionnal... system-5.1-mipsbe.npk, routeros-mipsbe-5.1.npk (and CHANGELOG_5). Ouch.

Hello,

Indeed the direct download failed... but the torrent download went perfect (and I'll be in the seed for a while for ALL)
I just downloaded and upgraded my router to 5.1 - and it works very well so far.

The link http://download.mikrotik.com/all_packages-x86-5.1.zip is bad for me, too... In our network, torrents are unwanted kind of traffic. We hope MT 5.0+ filter it better than before.. 8)

I don't know, but we are with 5.7 now. 5.0 is old and had lots of issues. Hence 5.7 now.... :o

What's new in 5.0 (2011-Mar-31 11:33):
...
On MT official site is written:
x86 does not currently support Nv2 (requires RouterBOARD hardware)
x86 may be supported in the future

but i tried in on x86 and it works
So what is the current status? Does it work or not? Some people do prefer to use their own boards Atom etc.!

nothing has changed regarding this issue. The above statement is still valid.

Then why did support tell me to test all those production PtP links (x86) with NV2 ? Or was that before you made this statement?

What about the available modes on x86? We can still select NV2?
