about PPPoE "peer is not responding, disconnection"

Mon Apr 04, 2011 7:26 pm

SYSTEM: Ros4.17
NIC WAN: INTEL 82543GC
NIC LAN: INTEL 82545GC
The end user is diagPPPOE to connect the ROS, but some times user will disconnect sudden.

and I have checked the log of ROS, Log "peer is not responding" disconnection

something like that, is there anyone who has the same experience?

thanks a lot.

We have a lot of PPPOE over mikrotik wireless AP's.

That error message is basically telling you that the pppoe connection is unsustainable due to network loss. For me half the time it's noise the other half the time it is weak signal/trees.

While pppoe is in session id be willing to bet that if you ping the pppoe user, you will have erratic loss with larger packet sizes.

Its a loosing battle in areas with a lot of homes as far as noise goes. If i had to re-do our unlicensed band towers, id be running a 433AH with 1XR2, 1 XR5, and a 900MHZ card pointing the same way. Hopefully when you run into a problem spot you can get a steady connection on one those three. wireless cams for security systems can make a 900mhz black hole for miles. routers/phones/other gadgets make 2.4 unreliable, and 5ghz has no penetration or range.

We are giving up on unlicensed and getting on board with Moto 3.65 Wimax gear with a Mikrotik as the NAT.

ohrly!

ok then, Ive never had problems with pppoe over ethernet, But since it basically means the same thing... problems with the Lan side NIC perhaps? What is your max MTU set to? 1492 is the default, but you may want to try 1480 if your pppoe sessions are dropping.

NIC WAN default: 1500 ,when wan-port pppoe to the ISP,it auto change 1440

NIC LAN default : 1550, when end user diag-pppoe to ROS , it's auto change 1440 .

i can see these in IP--firewall--mangle

thanks

hmm, you do have lots of room for the pppoe bits then. Im not aware of any configuration problem that can cause this, just link-hardware issues. If it's possible on your system (dont want to disrupt service un-nessicarely) I would try running the ethernet interface at different link speeds to see if the problem goes away. good operation at a slower link speed may indicate ahrdware issues with either the cable or NIC.

Other than that, im not sure what else to suggest.
