upgrade to 5.5 failing

Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:05 am

We have a x86 currently running v5.0rc4

I have downloaded the routeros-x86-5.5.npk, uploaded it to the files list and rebooted.
previous upgrades the .npk is removed and the firmware is updated, however this time the .npk remains and the firmware is unchanged.

our license is for up2 v7

with the .npk file uploaded we have 54.3MB of 60.7Mb used on the HDD.. there are no other files on the file list.

I have re downloaded firmware twice, once directly and again with the torrent.
both reboots the system has remained with old firmware.

Every time i reboot we are kicking off quite a large number of customers as this unit is our LNS.

Please advise.

unfortanatly nothing.
as by the time i log in with winbox, 400-1000 pppoe sessions have filled the log file.

in a few hours im going to try upgrade to 5.0 first, then if that works 5.5

but i cant just now, as its 8pm, so peak time for us..

Errr, isn't update output happening before routerOS even loads? I'm not sure there won't be any entry except on console itself.

I would disable pppoe server just before rebooting. After rebooting go to log and read the entry that is prompted for failing to install the new routeros version.
After reading the log file entry you can enable pppoe server so pppoe sessions can establish again.

upgrading to 5.0 has worked.

so ill try to 5.5 later in the day, Customers dont like the 2 min outages i cause :P

maybe there was just a bug going from such an older firmware to the newer one.

Logs do get entered for upgrade error messages and are available once the router has fully booted.
