Transparent web proxy - slow ping times

Mon Jul 04, 2011 11:26 am

Anyone seen this or know what would be causing it, speedtests show a ping time of 240ms when trans web proxy is on, once turned off the ping times are 40ms.

any suggestions what woudl cause this? I don't want to turn off my proxy as I'm using it for web access data retention.

thanks

What is the CPU utilization? Are there any queues filling up?

The packets are either getting delayed by QoS, or the router is too busy being a proxy to respond to ping, which is low priority.

Depending on the size of your network consider putting in a dedicated proxy, such as Squid.

Thanks again Fewi, at the moment there is very little utilization, I have only one test user running on a RB1200, I've seen a few posts regarding this but no resolution, I don't have any firewall rules or anything, just NAT masquerading and http port 80 redirection to 8080 for my transparent proxy.

Anyone thing else I can try besides installing squid?

Hi,

I have the same problem. I have RB450G with ROS 5.6 and pings are too slow. (200-260ms) Not only pings, I have 20 Mbits download and when proxy is active speed test results only shows 5 mbits. With ROS 4.** I had no problem.

I have the exact same problem, tried it with 2 routers, i can try it on more, but i am sure it is a routeros bug.

This is my post with this problem, but no one answered on it

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=71718

I also tried it with a virtualpc image and it is exactly the same. It is a routeros bug for sure.

This problem has been going on for some time now for sure, any chance of a fix for it? We have some clients who would like to use it but we keep it disabled or else they will have problems.

a bit late, but check Your DNS settings in router.

The DSN settings are correct.
