RB 800 power with 24V

Thu Sep 08, 2011 12:37 pm

Hi guys
What could be the effect of powering RB800 with 24V adapter
The board ships with a 48V adapter which got burnt some weeks ago.
When I checked routerboard.com, I discover that that the board actually support 10-56V DC on the power jack
So I decided to terminate a 24v power onto the power jack using one of the RB433 power adapter.
Ever since that time, I notice that users that have been enjoying the link before now complains of poor wireless signal.
Now, I guess that adapter is the cause
if so why?

RB800 works well using 24V PSU, just make sure that your PSU is powerful enough, board alone use ~10W, and then count in the usage that is added by wifi cards.

exact usage on PeXT 10.3W@24V results in 0.434A

also check cards, maybe some of them got damaged somehow.
