Feature Request: gretap tunneling

Tue Jan 10, 2012 2:05 pm

Since kernel 2.6.28 linux supports Ethernet over GRE encapsulation (http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g ... 22e2ec7a6b).
This new gretap interface can be used in bridges and we can create ethernet bridges between Linux and RouterOS.
ip link add gretap0 type gretap remote 10.10.10.10
brctl addif testbr gretap0
brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
testbr 8000.2266ce2d8284 no gretap0
Because RouterOS is Linux based, this feature is probably already in RouterOS kernel, so it should be very easy for Mikrotik developers to implement it and it will be very helpfull to make ethernet bridges between Linux and RouterOS.

No, gretap is different. Currently implemented mikrotik GRE interface can't be bridged and EoIP is mikrotik proprietary protocol.

Year has passed, we have rc11 of RouterOS 6, but this feature is still not available. And it just need to make interface in winbox/webfig/command line because it is already in kernel.

Did you email support to ask for this feature? Was it promised that it will be made? Forum is not always monitored by staff. This is the first time I see this topic.

Hi Normis,

I hit a request from a client for such a feature as well. It seems gretap does not exist as an interface in Mikrotik.

Could this be added as a feature request?

Thanks,

Matthew.
