Thanks for the suggestion. Currently we have no plans to add them to RouterOS v5, can you clarify what features are most important to you, and give some usage examples?

PLEASE EXPLAIN PROCESS CLEARER

"For RB1xx and RB5xx users (Old MIPS-LE devices): Before upgrading RouterBOARD 1xx or 5xx series devices (MIPS-LE) to version >=5.17, please upgrade your RouterBOOT firmware by uploading one of the following files to your corresponding device, and issuing command "/system routerboard upgrade".
RB1xx: http://download2.mikrotik.com/adm5120-2.18.fwf, RB5xx: http://download2.mikrotik.com/rc32434-2.18.fwf"

I put file in "filelist" directory, and then from terminal session do upgrade and reboot.

But the file remains in filelist and a "sys routerbpard pr" shows the original bootloader!

About le board firmware upgrade. I just checked a system running 5.16 and it's already running a 2.18 version of the firmware... Are we good to go or is there another revision that needs to be loaded and shouldn't it be 2.19?

Thanks...

Yes, you are good to go. The notice is meant for devices, which are running 2.8 or older RouterBOOT

When you upload the FWF file, put it in the root level, not in a directory. Type "/system routerboard print" before upgrade command, and check if the current firmware and "upgrade firmware" are different. If yes - the file was detected correctly, and you can proceed with upgrade command.

Doesn't appear to be a checkbox in Winbox for the email STARTTLS option though it is in the command line.

c0d3rSh3ll, -22dBm signal is much too strong, you could be seeing problems. Try to decrease signal to around -55dBm, and the link will improve. One dBm signal change is very insignificant, it could be caused by change in atmospheric conditions, or other factor.

Hi all,

i have tested the issue " *) files - fixed problem when directories disappeared after reboot on usb or sd flash;" and it's really fixed.

Testing :
One HDD - 250GB ( defined as disks and shared using SMB) attached to the USB port of an RB751U-2HnD.
I have created an directory then copied an file inside that directory (using both protocols smb and ftp).
Restarted the router and the file remains where i have copied (using both protocols smb and ftp).

Thank you team great work.

Best Regards,

Daniel

Hourrayh!!
1 year to implement this (at least, I had no routerOS device before...)
I cant't wait 2013-2014 so we could end up seeing FQDN as smtp "server" option. Oh yeah.

I think that RouterBOOT 2.18 is the last for MIPSle. 2.19 for MIPSle never goes out?
Can we uninstall the package Routerboard to free more memory?
Thanks

Re: RouterOS v5.17 released

*) ping times improved on Nv2 high data rate wireless links;

I've got a test link to try new thinks.

Signal is 70/70 TX/RX in the two chains. Radios are ubiquiti SR71-15. And the antennas are the wonderful Jirous JRC24 DUPLEX. Distance is ~15km. If you want more details i can give you radio mobile profile of the net.

Is a transparent link using WDS where i have got a couple of VLAN upon it.

NV2 in version <= 5.16 was TOTALLY unstable. latency and jitter simply do the link unusable.

With Nstreme enabled WITHOUT frame policy and whit polling i've got 100mbps send/receive and 50/50 both. Ping, latency and jitter is simply wonderful (1ms or 2).

I've upgraded to 5.17 to try the quoted feature. Now NV2 is true that it work better, also bandwidth test is more stable and powerful, i've got 130mbps send or receive and 65 both side. BUT this is the result of ping (BETTER THAN OTHERS VERSIONS):

X.X.X.233 56 64 4ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 10ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 34ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 27ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 26ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 10ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 9ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 10ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 25ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 8ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 4ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 23ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 19ms

Ok guys. With those results NV2 cannot be used in production environment. For me, and for anyone with a little bit of head, jitter and latency ARE MORE important than bandwidth.

Only to remark the difference with nstreme, this is the result:

X.X.X.233 56 64 1ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 1ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 1ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 1ms
X.X.X.233 56 64 1ms
sent=5 received=5 packet-loss=0% min-rtt=1ms avg-rtt=1ms max-rtt=1ms

Strange thing with "voucher generation" and "reports" under user manager. Downgraded to 5.16 solved the problem.

It seems that the report url is something like "http://192.168.31.254/userman?serviceId=UMT.Report" on 5.16 and working, but if I remember correct on 5.17 its more like "http://192.168.31.254/user?serviceId=UMT.Report", the same goes for the "voucher generation"

Running on RB751G, can make a support file AFTER my MTCUME exam today ;-)

good stuff, hopefully this fixes the disappearing micro-sd cards: http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=46144, will give it a go.

I sent a detailed bug report about this problem a few months back, but other users had been complaining about it for a long time.

*) ping times improved on Nv2 high data rate wireless links;
What is exactly done to improve the ping times? A bit more technical background on what has actually done by technicians would be helpful to understand how and when this help ping times and if I really need this upgrade.

Does it mean the link as a whole is improved? Or is icmp protocol filtered and given high priority?
ping is only a package, so if ping is improved are other packages traffic improved too? If only ping is improved than that's useless. Ping is used to see how a link performs. If ping now is stable where the rest of the link still would suffer latency and jitter the tool is useless and I see no reason for this improvement if only gimmick.
Please an explanation.

The Nv2 rate tx algorithm has been tuned to support better ping times.

I agree, the ping time are better on interfaces with some moderate traffic. But still very big jitter, when with very low or no traffic. But this is the problem with waiting for some data to send just one big packet istead of few smaller.
I can also agree to improovments on stabilising transfer rates and speeds. It does not improove the maximum trafer rate too much, but it seems to be more stable, so more predictable version to version.

I hope this means this helps latency and jitter as a whole. Ping is only a measurement tool.

http://www.vyatta.com/files/pdfs/Vyatta ... _Final.pdf - performance, stability and need for frequent updates, IPS/IDS requires quite a lot CPU/memory so i can imagine to have it on new 36-core routerboard platform, but definately not on current boards. And if you need to run RouterOS on x86, then another box running just IPS/IDS is better idea.

Why is it? As you can see the old ones are not regexp.

had no problems with 5.17 on 700-series but also tried it on a rb493 - it totally screwed switch setup, also wan throughput went almost to 0, downgrading to 5.16 solved the problem, now I'm afraid to use it on 493 series (and I have a lot of them)

edit: switch setup was - eth3-eth8 - masterport eth2, eth2 in bridge1, vlan id=2 on bridge1, eth9 in bridge2, ros5.17 didn't allow eth2 in bridge1 and disabled it, after removing masterport from eth3-eth8 and adding eth2-eth8 to bridge1 wan throughput went to 0

I have issue with graphing tool in winbox only with resources. RB433AH 5.17.
Interface graphing in winbox is OK. On www everything is OK. Every resource in winbox is 1px high.
Which version fixed it?!
