Hotspot login by https

Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:29 pm

Hi Mikrotik people,

when I try to access to login page by mail.google.com (HTTPS) explorer don't redirect me to login page! But If I try with normal page HTTP the explorer redirect me to login page of hotspot, then I login and I can access to mail.google.com HTTPS.

How I can make to access first time to mail.google.com??

Thanks

That is because you cannot redirect an HTTPS session to a HTTP session. They are different protocols and use different ports. This is the same for every gateway/hotspot out there.

Since we don't use HTTPS on our initial login pages, I'm not sure if you run an HTTPS version of your login page if you will or won't be able to redirect HTTPS users to that.

Yes, you have to use https on the initail login page. Then the problem becomes that a user will always get a certificate warning.

If you look at the warning it will make sense. Download a demo certfiicate from thawte and test it. It makes sense
