New x86 machine for ROS -Chipset Intel Z77 + Ivy Bridge

Tue Nov 06, 2012 12:42 pm

I need new x86 for Mikrotik, I am thinking about this configuration:

MSI Z77A-G43 - Intel Z77
Intel Core i3-3220T
Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB DDR3 1333
Intel SSD 520 - 60GB, OEM
Seasonic X-400FL 400W

What do you mean about it? Will it be functional?
If I set SATA to legacy mode, do I install ROS on it?
(will be functional Mutlicpu=yes ??)

i would go for some intel q6600, or E8400 and some Intel 100/1000MBps cards,
it easily handles couple of GBps traffic ...

depends mostly of your needs,
will it be PPPoE server, VPN server, edge router with OSPF, NAT, Policy Routing, etc.

maybe download newest x86 iso and give it a try.
With the new kernel it should work.
