New MT download pages

Hi all,

It seems that the download pages have been changed since I last had a look.

There no longer appears to be a link for a .torrent of all the versions - it is now split into the various architectures.

Unfortunately, the following links:

http://download.mikrotik.com/routeros-m ... 21.torrent
http://download.mikrotik.com/routeros-ppc-5.21.torrent
http://download.mikrotik.com/routeros-m ... 21.torrent
http://download.mikrotik.com/routeros-x86-5.21.torrent

All lead to 404 errors.

Does anybody have a working link to the torrents? Even better, has somebody got a link to one torrent with all the architectures in it as before?

Many thanks.

Found it:

http://www.mikrotik.com/download/router ... 21.torrent

So, looks like http://www.mikrotik.com/download --> download.mikrotik.com

Except that the files haven't been copied over and the 'ALL' torrent has been discontinued.

Presumably any new versions (5.22 onwards) will only be on download.mikrotik.com?

I would like to put a call in and ask others to post their reasons if they want this as well.

We deploy various architectures around our network and have various versions in play (for various compatibility reasons mainly) and I use the all download torrent each release to have a full database so I can netinstall or upgrade to any of our field versions in play.

I know it isnt hard to click through multiple torrent files if that is the system in place however the old torrent files were great for an easy structure that is how my archive is arranged on my system and this replicates to our other engineers and the devices we have in the field to hold copies.

I would ask MikroTik to look at including the ALL torrent as an option at the bottom, built the same way as previously so that those of us who had a reason to use it can still go there and grab it.

Regards
Alexander

We will include it, sorry about that, but why do you need it? We now host files in the amazon cloud, and it is much faster than waiting for people to seed the torrent. Also RouterOS now includes an auto-upgrade button which gets the file from our download page automatically.

Because it's a damn-sight easier to download one file with everything you could possibly need in it than click through several links on a web page to get the files, then put them all in one folder hierarchy.
We now host files in the amazon cloud, and it is much faster than waiting for people to seed the torrent.
Speed has never been a problem, so I see no benefit to Amazon over torrent.
Also RouterOS now includes an auto-upgrade button which gets the file from our download page automatically.
I can not think of any one feature I would want less on a business-critical security device. Besides which, this doesn't help with netinstalls or firmware downgrading.

Do you really use that many MIPS-LE devices? Usually 90% of network consists of similar architecture.

Since we bought a whole jobload of miniRouters on eBay, yes we do!
Usually 90% of network consists of similar architecture.
Sounds about right. Ours is about 80% mipsbe, 10% ppc, 5% mipsle and 5% x86. However, just because something is rarely used doesn't mean that it isn't used. Having all firmwares for all architectures on a USB stick has proved its worth on more than one occasion.

I like too to have a download torrent for all files like before.
By the way, excuse my ignorance, but how is amazon cloud download working?

Maybe we are odd but one of the Networks we manage has a bunch of wifi AP's running on 500 series boards.

so maybe 10% of our network there

Then we have RB1000, 1100AH (and x2), and 1200 units. Maybe another 10% there

We have some x86 boxes probably <5% tho.

And the rest is mips-be gear.

So maybe we are unusual but we have need for that and auto upgrade is no use in boards that havent yet been upgraded that far.

Also those boards that we have in the field may require a reinstall of their current version, or a step up from an old version to current through netinstall.

My archive of images has saved my bacon in the field more times than I care to mention.

If if they have never been upgraded, how does a new download page affect your workflow with these units?

at first I thought the CSS for the page wasn't loading because it looked broken. It's a not a very good design.

No -ALL for 6rc3?

No -ALL for future versions?

Oh well... Not going to bother downloading all these files seperately... Way to much effort.

change the 5.21 to 6.0rc3 and then put the link into the browser address bar and it worked for me yesterday.

I would love to see a set of links on the upper area that was "all systems" that had the version options and the download links.

RouterOS now includes an auto-upgrade button which gets the file from our download page automatically.
in 6.0rc3, it still shows "broken LATEST file"

Yeah, there is a small bug in the way this error is displayed, but what did you expect to upgrade to? This IS the latest version after all, of course it fails :)

I would expect the error to actually correctly identify the real error which is "you are already at the latest version" - feel free to add "you idiot"? :P

However, as with NAB I would NEVER use such a button! I use The Dude to upgrade devices however without the ALL file, I can't do that anymore without a very large amount of extra clicking and downloading and more clicking and more downloading... yawn. If only I had the time to do this. But previously, it was so much easier...

In my opinion, this is a massively downward step. I mean massively!

Please... listen to your customers and simply add the files you used to deliver with the previous version. One small extra zip file from your end so you guys will have to 'waste' an extra minute doing that for us, but for us... the time saved will be very substantial! :-)

Plus, I only have so much hair left on my head!

Didn't you read this?
Yeah, there is a small bug in the way this error is displayed

but there is such a file!

the reason for this change, is that 90% of people downloaded each routerboard type separately, oblivious to the fact that the files for RB433 and RB750 are the same
However, as with NAB I would NEVER use such a button
thanks, that will save us some bandwidth :)

Didn't you read this?
Yup - sure did. Which is why I made the comment. I find it crazy that a software developer could create an error message that makes no sense. That is not a 'small bug'. That is poor quality control. But like you, I am entitled to my opinion and as I am getting older, I can more crazy with my ideas. :-)

Thank you for now including the link, I didn't think to look for it amongst the 'Tools and Utilities' listing though - expected the ALL packages download to be at the top with all the other packages! How stupid of me. :-)

Errr.... because it is under 'Useful Tools and Utilities' and not under 'RouterOS'? Do you store your kitchen cooking utensils, pots and pans in your garage? :D

you are probably one of ten people who need this. like I said, most people downloaded individual packages for each routerboard series. so yes, based on statistics, this is in fact a garage item :)
