RB2011UAS-2HnD - USB Problems

Tue Jan 15, 2013 6:45 pm

For the life of me, I can't get the USB port to even show up in the port listings. The serial port shows up, and on every other model of router I've had with a usb port, the usb will show up there too. None of my RB2011's show a usb port. What do I have to do to get it to work? I've tried plugging in USB memory sticks and USB cellular sticks during boot up. I'm using the cable that came with the device (usb otg to usb).

If I go to the system > routerboard > usb menu in the terminal, I can't switch the mode because it says the command doesn't exist.

I never had any of these issues with the 751, it just worked...

EDIT:
I have also tried the following firmware versions: 5.21, 5.22 and 6.0rc6, with 6.0rc6 I also tried installing all the packages and not just using the upgrade package.

USB port will show up in Port listing only if USB-Serial Adapter is connected to RouterBoard.
To check if USB device is attached use: /system resource usb print
Cable which came with RB2011 does not need to have USB port mode changed, it should work with mode=automatic

Use RouterOS v5.22 or v6.0rc6, not older version, and if problem stays, write to support@mikrotik.com

I am experiencing problems with this as well.

A 3G USB works fine in my 751U but does not show up in the ports menu at all on my RB2011.

I have set mode=force-host and now I can see it in /sys res usb but it does not show up as an available port in the PPP menu which is where I want to use it!

There was talk of this being fixed in a later version. Coming soon to a RB2011 near me I hope.

I mean, it is small hardware issue with RB2011. Shutdown ROS, disconnect RB from the wall AC outlet, only then connect USB stick and power on again. Then I have everything worked fine.

Thanks rsergeev, I'll give it a try as soon as I receive my USB OTG cable. I bought the RB2011 exclusively to work with a USB 3G modem. I hope this isn't a hardware problem, insufficient power is not thing, and is fixable. I just hope it isn't a permanent problem.

I meant to come back earlier and say it started working. This was exactly what I did.

The port didn't show up without the card being present during power up. The same is true for USB memory sticks, I don't seem to be able to hot swap them in the device. For my purposes, everything is working fine though.

This is no good,

I also just bought the RB2011UiAS purely for USB modem support.

My usb is also not showing up.

Has this hardware problem possibly been rectified on any revisions or newer models?

Would a usb Hub inline help solve this problem?

Are there any work a rounds or solutions to this?

From my understanding, If the 3G modem on the usb is the main internet connection.

I cannot remotely reboot the router because when it power back on there will be no modem?

I am also having trouble getting the PPP Client working. I plugged the usb in and then connected up the power supply. When I do this I see LTE interface.

However when I try choose the port on the PPP Client, it only shows me Serial0 not USB?

How do I get it to show?

I am using a e3531 huawei usb modem.

 /system resource usb print

For Huawei E3531 there is no serial ports. It is working with CDC Ethernet drivers and shows up as lte1 Device.
And You cannot ad this modems as serial ppp-out Interface.
