Switch chip features

Mon Jan 21, 2013 3:17 am

Is there a way to get more switch chip features in the rb's. I noticed that there does not appear to be spanning-tree capabilities available on the switch chip via routeros

Rapid spanning-tree protocol capabilities are only available for the bridge.

Switch chip features depend on the hardware chip itself.

hi kirshteins

thank you but my question is, can we utilize these features ?

as it is now as an example, if i'm hardware switching on an RB2011UAS-2HnD on ports 1-5 and i create a switching loop it does not stop this. Now those ports use the Atheros 8327 chip according to the router, which has full support for 802.1D spanning tree (http://www.qca.qualcomm.com/media/produ ... _file1.pdf) however it clearly isn't active in its basic form and i cannot change anything relating to the switch chip features aside from the normal vlan features.

So i guess my question is, are there plans to enable more switch chip functionality via routeros? It just pays to know the capability so the right products can be selected when purchasing for a particular purpose.
