PPPoE drops connections when Ethernet port bounces

Fri Feb 01, 2013 5:47 am

We have some RB750G and RB750UP's in the field acting as local PPPoE servers at the tower sites. Typically
we will bridge 3 ethernet ports together and put them in a pppoe-bridge (connecting 3 sector radios). Then we
will run the PPPoE server on the pppoe-bridge interface. When one of the ethernet connections in the pppoe-bridge
drops and reconnects; it drops all active PPPoE connections (even those on other ethernet ports). Is this normal
behavior? I haven't paid it much mind until we have had a recent problem with one of the ethernet interfaces at a
site that keeps resetting the PPPoE server every 5-10 minutes. Is there anything that can be done with settings to
mitigate this behavior? I've seen this behavior as recent as the 5.22 kernel.

I have the same issue but with a RB450G. I have bridged two ethernet ports and
I also run a PPPoE server on the bridge interface. Evertime one ethernet port gets
disconnected the all PPPoE sessions drop and reconnect. I have seen it on v5.22
and also on v 5.23. Am yet to figure out what might be causing this.

Does setting the port to edge=yes-discover help?

Where do I set that?
On the bridge or the ethernet ports.

Same problem by me.
I have 2xLAN and 2x WLAN interfaces bridged. PPPoE server is running on bridge interface.
When one of interfaces flaps - all sessions on all interfaces in this bridge are disconnected.
Setting edge=yes discover didn't help...

Make sure that you have set an admin-mac on the bridge.

Nick.
