newbie questions about pppoe

Tue Feb 26, 2013 10:41 am

Hi

Today we have a wireless network that is routed, NO bridges. On top of that we run OSPF.

In the future we want to apply pppoe connections on this wireless network. would that work?
Do pppoe scan work on routed network? because if i do a scan in the edge of the wireless network and run a torch in the center searching for pppoe discover packets, their is nothing.

How do you build your wireless network? like a big LAN ? where discovery packets are sent to all edges?

dooh, pppoe runs only on layer 2.

but the problem still exists;

Main-Router ------> WirelessNetwork ------> Customer.

I want the customer to receive a public IP-adress, can be done whit ospf. But, I don't want the customer to see all the devices in the wireless lan via traceroute.

So, how do you do that? do you all run a big L2 wireless network?

We run pppoe servers at the edges - just behind the Access points, then route from there.

But that means that all the wireless routers before the pppoe server is visible fore the user at the end via traceroute?
