2.9.16 Released

Thu Mar 09, 2006 10:17 pm

What's new in 2.9.16:

*) fixed ospf bugs that caused problems when multiple addresses were
assigned to the same interface;
*) added option for enabling TCP SYN cookies;

What's new in 2.9.15:

*) fixed mac address changing (improves vrrp)
*) fixed dns cache, it could stop working
*) added server-name and interface-name variables in hotspot servlet pages;
*) fixed bonding, works better with wds slaves
*) fixed wireless related kernel crashes when some combinations of
nstreme/framer-policy/encryption are used;
*) added support for VerizonWireless CDMA modem;
*) fixed major bug in routing protocol operation that was
introduced in 2.9.13;
*) decreased default queue size for Simple Queues (uses less memory);
*) fixed bug - system backup did not work on RB500;
*) disabling connection tracking could sometimes crash router;

Update documentation pleeeease!

Please update the manual so that these new settings / possibilities can be understood!

And what is a "wds slave"? Does it have anything to do with wireless? I am using bonding in 2.9.11 and it seems to work quite well... is this workin better also for ordinary LAN nic's?

An implementation of VRRP that *works* would be welcome! It needs to be able to take over the MAC addresses as well.

Does 2.9.16 fix the 64mb NAND problem?

I have a few older ones that I've been waiting to upgrade.

Thanks,
Richard

After upgrade if use NAT must modify connection tracking TCP send/receive timeout to 00:01:00. The deafault in 2.9.16 not correct.

I don't have any Skype stuff to test with, but MSN appears to be working OK. I only tested text chat so far though.

Edit: just saw your reply... I'm not using any NAT, pure routing/PPPoE

Since I did what BLT suggested above, everything's working fine.

Strange thing is that once I upgraded to .16, the connection tracking change is done. I tried rolling back to .14, but the new connection tracking were kept, and I still could not connect.

It affected Skype, MSN, Soulseek and outbound SMTP.
HTTP, FTP and inbound SMTP were not affected.

it is located in:

/ip firewall connection tracking print

I think it is better to set it to 10s max, with 1m you could have too many defective cobbections in your connection tracking table
