802.1Q Trunking with Atheros ROS6 and Management IP

Sun Jun 09, 2013 8:07 pm

Hi,

i just tried the new features in ROS 6 on my RB751G-2HnD. I setup the example from http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Sw ... outerOS_v6 to have wire speed while switching multiple vlans. This is all fine but now want to assign a management IP on a specific vlan and later bind a wireless ap to each vlan.

I tried to add a vlan interface on the trunk port and give it an ip, but this doesn't work.

Can you tell me if/how this is working?

Thanks

An example of how to configure management IP is added in the same wiki page.

I find out that it is only possible to manage Router 1 from a computer on the same IP subnet. I cannot reach Router 1 from a different IP subnet through another router. I can ping my PC from Router 1 with IP address 192.168.1.100, but not the other way around. With the tool Torch on Router 1, I can see that packets arrive from IP address 192.168.1.100.

The only way to manage Router 1 is to NAT trough Router 2, or connect my PC to another VLAN on the switch with the subnet 192.168.88.0/24.

Does Router1 have route to 192.168.1.0/24 subnet? If not, add a static route.

Yes, Router1 has a route to 192.168.1.0/24. I can ping to 192.168.1.100 from Router1.
