Vlan problem or ... ?

Wed Apr 12, 2006 10:43 pm

Hello,

I need little help. I've got this problem

LinuxA --- MT1 ~~~~ MT2 ---LinuxB

There are normal switches between linuxes and MTs. And wireless between MTs.

LinuxA has: 10.0.0.1 on vlan1 10.0.1.1 on vlan2 and 10.0.2.1 on vlan3
LinuxB has: 10.0.0.2 on vlan2 10.0.1.2 on vlan2 and 10.0.2.2 on vlan3

The reason ... these are 3 ways from LinuxA to LinuxB (optic and 2 wireless backbones ...).

I've got this problem on MT1 bridge station-wds and eth1 on MT2 bridge AP-bridge with default-wds-bridge and eth1.

And it doesn't work.
I've got 3 pings from LinuxA to MT1 and they stops. I can hear MT1 from MT2 (throw wireless) I logged in. Everything seems fine, the machin didn't hangout. Just the eth1 interface.
Could it be Vlan/Ethernet problem ?
The ethernet is: 5 00:0a.0 Davicom Semiconductor, Inc. 21x4x DEC-Tulip compatible 10/100 Ethernet (rev... 10

The other Idea I got is:
bridge vlan1,2,3 and wireless ... but I'm not sure everything will work well ...

Without vlans everything works fine - 40 mbits.

P.S. Happy 100 post to me :).

Are you trying to connect more than one VLAN over the wireless link?
What interfaces did you add to the bridge on both sides of the wireless link?

1st question: Yes.
2nd question: Bridge is working perfectly without vlans. The conf is:
MT1: Bridge Port - eth1 and wlan1 (station-wds mode).;
MT2: Bridge port - eth1 and wds1 (ap-bridge mode of the vlan with wds-default-bridge...).

I think it is probably the NIC driver. I've got simular problem with Intel and Vlan and solve it with excahnging the Nic with other chipset ... I'll post later the results.

I would say its the fact that the chipset handles vlan tags poorly. If not properly at all.

realtek and intel work great. but research your chipset.

The other possibilty is that your missing some routes.

I'm not sure what chipset the dlink is. Realtek and Intel are the good VLAN capable ethernet cards. For non-vlan stuff, 3com 3c905 series is tops in my book.
