6.6 to 6.7 CRS very slow LAN speed

Tue Dec 10, 2013 4:22 am

Hi

I have recently upgraded my CRS "CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD-IN" from 6.6 to 6.7

I am now no longer able to achieve the speeds i was getting earlier on my LAN. A windows to windows file transfer only achieves 3.5MiB where as i would have usually get nearer 100MiB.

What is the easiest way of getting back to 6.6? the download pages only mention 6.7 now?

I have similar problem also with CRS and 6.7.
I have submitted ticket to mikrotik and until now there is no answer.

Ports say 1Gbps connected but bandwidth is around 10 mbps.

This screenshot shows me pushing a file over my gigabit network from a PC on ether2 to a server on ether8. You can see that both have negotiated at 1Gbps , what's strange is the reported traffic on ether19 as the computer on that is on standby and there should be no traffic going to it.

My setup is pretty much as it is out of the box no queues and only a handful of NAT rules on the Gateway.

Apologies for bumping this a second time but i unplugged the cable from ether19 and the speed shot back up again. Its like the every port is only going as fast as the slowest link? When i did unplug ether19 winbox still reports its rate as 10mb even with it unplugged.

I have receive new 6.8rc1 firmware, from Mikrotik support, but unfortunately I have no time to test it now because December is always busiest month of the year. When I find time I will post new comment about that problem.

Same problem here.
It would be interesting to know if in the release notes of the new 6.8 RouterOS is talking about the resolution of the issue...

First try resetting configuration in v6.8rc1.
If it also does not help, send supout.rif to MikroTik support.

I have performed a 'system reset configuration' and if I let the router come back up without any settings i can see that the TX traffic on the incorrect port is no longer there. As soon as i try and run my import script or backup to restore my config the error returns and the import script fails with an error.

[admin@MikroTik] > import 68export.rsc
invalid value for argument numbers

I'm afraid I'm fairly new to mikrotik so without the quick set pages working on 6.8rc1 the only way i can get my configuration back means i end up with the error back as well.

Same issue.

To clarify, the issue is being caused by the switch chip behaving as a hub... All traffic coming in any port is being forwarded out all other slaved ports (broadcasts or not). If you have even one 10Mbit link, all links must transmit at that speed.

Only affects hardware switched ports, not bridging ports. Not even a foggy idea how this could have happened.

Update: Quick downgrade to 6.6 fixes the issue. If you're running production, this looks like the best option so far.

That explains why the per port stats seemed off.

Mikrotik Support says that must be solved in v6.8rc1:
Problem is fixed in RouterOS version from the link:

http://www.mikrotik.com/download/share/ ... 6.8rc1.npk

It is required to reconfigure CRS125 for fixes to take effect.

You can keep all non-switch related configuration from export for easier import,
but switch configuration needs to be manually reconfigured.
Special attention to: It is required to reconfigure CRS125 for fixes to take effect.

So, you reset your (switch) config after update?

I will try this in the next days.

What exactly is meant by that?... how do you "reconfigure" the CRS125? Do I need to reset the whole thing to defaults or ..?

Not tried yet, but I think that's it: reset config and do all manually other time.

Almost in the switch config... I think that restore backup may not work.

I'll try this today later or tomorrow.

I'm having the exact same issues here. Massive slow down. What is happening is that all switch traffic is being processed by the CPU. So basically nothing is being sent to the switch chip. I've tested this and verified that any traffic on any port that is part of a switch goes first to the CPU. the CPU will hit 90% utilization one one large transfer. If you are torrenting it will destroy your lan traffic. Once you max out the CPU or even just put heavy load on it all LAN traffic will crawl to a snail's pace.

*Note to self: Don't auto upgrade any longer. Wait for some more mature builds that are reported as working on the CRS125 before updating next time.

I actually have this kind of problem but not with switch but bridge on a rb1100 ah x 2

there are 4 lan ports bridged. 2 are 1gig ports and two are 100meg ports.

I find unless I fix all the port speeds to all the same ie: 100meg FD there is serious throughput issues on the bridge.

For example with the mixed port speed the traffic between the 1 gig ports is OK but the 100meg ports are limited to around 15-18 mbps.

By fixing the port speed all to 100 meg fd the throughput to all ports is 100mbps?

Try 6.8rc1. I upgraded then reset my configuration and it works great now.

6.8rc is royally messed up on my CRS125. After the upgrade nothing works and connection to the device is intermittent. If I make any changes to settings on the CRS125 I lose connection and am forced to reset to defaults again to gain access. Hopefully something gets fixed soon because my CSR125 is going to just sit on a shelf for now.

.Tried the 6.8 Beta, reset the config, if I only use one port on ether 2 a master to a switch it works OK.
If I populate the switch ports 10 active all ports except 1 port is 1G with one 100MHz connection the ports all slow down.
Put this on the shelf for a while.
Looks like the switching microcode is screwed up.
All the switch ports are in one subnet liked to master port ether 2.
I did not configure and bridge ports I assume this config was correct? any comments?
Merry Christmas and Thanks,
Garry

Re: 6.6 to 6.7 CRS very slow LAN speed still broken in 6.8RC

Fri Jan 03, 2014 2:32 am

I did the full config rest and installed 6.8RC1.
Changed the lan address to (Ether2 master) 10.0.1.1/24 and the DHCP pool 10.0.1.2-10.0.1.200 to match my home network.
It does not work runs for a few mins then lockups LAN speed drops on ports down to 10M.
Still pretty buggy.
Should not have shipped this box in this poor state shame Mikrotik.
Always had good experience with your routers the Frankenstein switch is not travelling too well so far.
Thanks,
Garry

I'm running the latest 6.8rc1 1/2/14. Seems to be pretty stable. However, I STILL have 5 to 7% of CPU usage for "management" on an idle device. I never saw this on my RB2011s, but it is on my CRS running any version of ROS.

Problem still exists on routeros 6.9 in CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD hardware

I upgraded 6.5 to 6.9 webfig -> system -> packages -> Download&Upgrade

With RouterOS 6.5: Download 170Mbit/s, upload 104Mbit/s
With RouterOS 6.9: Download 3Mbit/s, upload 104Mbit/s

I used speedtest.net mini flash test for speed measurements.

I upgraded to RouterOS 6.9 and reset configuration to defaults.

model: CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD
Routerboard fimware: 3.10
RouterOS: 6.9

Now I get 180Mbit/s down and 120Mbit/s up - which are about the same values than RouterOS 6.5.

This solved my problem. Thank you!

No problem. Not sure what it was in there,... but I had a similar problem and just doing a reset fixed it.

Just to confirm. Do a backup, apply 6.9, Reset Configuration, then reapply backup?

This can be done under System / Reset Configuration if so.

No... restoring the backup seems to generate the problem again. I actually did an export... reset to defaults.. and then manually reconfigured my switch using my export as a template (ignoring things I didn't need/change myself to start with).

Yeah. Not really sure what it is... but the backup/restore method set back whatever seemed to not be working right. Exporting it and then manually just running through the export and copy pasting the appropriate stuff into the terminal worked perfectly.

Hello
First, I am using mikrotik hardware for a Month now, so I am a newby, please excuse me.
I use a CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD
Routerboardversion 3.12, RouterOS 6.10
I used the default (factory settings) for testing but on ether1-gateway, connectet to my CableModem/Cisco EPC3208 I only get 35Mbit download max.
Usualy my connection is ~100Mbit.
I hooked up a RB951Ui* with this device i`ll get 97Mbit wich is pretty nice.
I can not imagine what could possibly go wrong, the interface status on the CRS shows a running 1Gbps connection.
Last weekend i found this post, I resettet everything (running 6.9 then) and tried a reset on this (6.10) but the troughput is still not amusing.
I can't tell anything about upload since i only pay for 5Mbit. This works.
Does anybody have a clou for me, what i could do to fix this?
Would the downgrade to 6.6 be the solution recommended?

Has this problem been addressed? A better question might be: Was this problem exclusive to coming from (6.6) or going to a specific release (6.7), or can the speed problem be reintroduced by any (6.x) upgrade on a CRS?

I did an export-import on 6.10 and it fixed the problem, but I'd rather not rush into 6.11 if there is still a chance the CRS will slow down again.
