[SOLVED] Some DNS queries are going to my ISP's DNS servers

Thu Feb 06, 2014 10:10 pm

I'm wanting all devices on my network to use my router as their DNS server, and this works fine in that all devices are reporting their DNS server as the router, however some DNS queries are going to my ISP's DNS servers even though I have specified 4 other servers:

I'm guessing the "dynamic servers" are my ISP's DNS servers. Is there a way I can disable them?

I know my ISP's DNS servers are being used because I get a page from BT sometimes when I mistype domains, and sometimes http://dnsleaktest.com reports my DNS server as being BT's.

As you mention BT, I assume you have a PPOE client set up to connect to the FTTC modem?

If so, uncheck 'use peer DNS' in the PPOE interface

Would PPPoE be bthomehub@btbroadband.com and then password bt or is the FTTC username and password different from the ADSL service?

Edit
I have setting up a BT Business for a cyber cafe and i had to add theses DNS by going IP > DNS that BT uses however you dont have to use theses DNS as i removed them and using the OpenDNS and Norton

OpenDNS http://www.opendns.com
Norton DNS https://dns.norton.com/dnsweb/huConfigurePc.do

PPPoA
Username: AXXXXXX@XXXX.btclick.com
Password: YOUR BT BUSINESS PASSWORD

DNS 1 62.6.40.178 = BT UK
DNS 2 194.72.9.34 = BT UK

IME its the same as ADSL. don't think the password matters - I usually use 'password'

How about setting up a rule to grab any port 53 traffic tcp and udp and force it where you want it.
