RB951-2n PoE question

Thu Apr 17, 2014 5:42 pm

Hello,

I'm having problems getting RB951-2n to work with only ethernet connection with PoE.
According to http://routerboard.com/RB951-2n , the router supports PoE. I have a Cat5e ethernet cable connected to ether1 port, but RB is not getting any power (no LEDs light up). RB is connected to a Zyxel ES-2108, which has PoE-out (if I connect an IP Phone to the cable, it works just fine).
Tried different cables.

ROS is latest (v6.12) and Firmware is 3.10.
I can't find any settings to do with PoE in /interface ethernet or anywhere else in fact.

Also tried with RB2011, same "result".
I can't figure out why it's not working, maybe you guys have some ideas.

Thank you.

According to Zyxel's web, it has 802.3af (active) PoE, which needs to negotiate power for working. RouterBoards as opposite are using passive PoE (just voltage in two wires), so they doesn't ask for power. (Except mAP, which should support both.)
I don't know, if there is any simple solution. Probably you'll need some kind of convertor between them, or you can disable PoE on Zyxel and put there a passive injector.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I'll have to try with an injector.
