RouterOS 2.9.24 is out

Thu May 18, 2006 5:47 pm

What's new in 2.9.24:

*) fixed console crashes on rb500, that were produced by many
scheduler entries;
*) added option to WinBox to not automatically open previous session windows
works only with v2.9.24;
*) improved vrrp (fixed some bugs, added interface setting to addresses);
*) fixed crashing while tracking PPTP connections for NAT;
*) fixed rb500 ether1 - did not restore speed/duplex settings after reboot,
disable,enable was needed;
*) bandwidth-test could crash router with packet sizes < 32;
*) fixed link-monitor=arp when bonding used on WDS interfaces;
*) made roaming handling in AP more liberal to support different
interpretations of 802.11 (for Siemens WL2);
*) fixed memory leak in graphing;

Yes, these change logs make my BP rise sometimes. Should be:

Once was a time that I thought WinBox was updated when the new dlls were downloaded. Missed a lot of new features that way.

Demo license expired after install!

Thu May 18, 2006 7:06 pm

Hi,

I have just downloaded and installed the 2.9.24 vers. and after install and reboot, MK just says that the demo license has expired, without working on single second ;)

It's this a known bug ? if so, any work around?

Thanks

If you're using a demo license, you cannot upgrade, you will need to install from scratch (or buy a license)

Here is the issue..

(I just spent over 2 hrs fixing it..)

You prob have a RB5XX..
You tried to copy the files and reboot but the router did not upgrade..
You DID NOT look at the logs and see that the upgrade time had expired
(Neither did I)
You performed a NetInstall upgrade / install and selected to keep the current config..

The router did as it was told.. the Lic. showed as "expired" and the router showed a version that was installed past its installation limit and shut its self down..

Here is the fix..

Renew your license.
Store the resulting text string as a file the machine performing the reinstall.
Boot the RB5XX into "monitor" and perform an ethernet boot to connect to the netinstall server.
Point the lic. text box to the licenst file you created earlyer.
BE SURE TO SELECT "KEEP PREVIOUSE SETTINGS" CHECK BOX OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Perform the upgrade.

All done...

Elapsed time with all issues of connectivity etc.... Over 2Hrs...

Experiance for next time and to help others who dont want to bang their head against the wall for an extended time..... PRICELES....

One question..

Has the RSTP and new web proxy become part of the std package set for RB5XX?

I see them stil posted for i86 but not for MIPS...

Craig, have you been testing out RSTP? Curious how it's working for you if you have...

Stil doesn't install

Fri May 19, 2006 10:27 am

I still can't install 2.9.24:

1) I did a clean local install and say that don't keep the configuration.
2) MT format the disk and installed correctly.
3) After reboot, complete the install, generate the ssh keys and ... demo license expired please reinstall :?

Any idea about ?

Thanks

It's not an upgrade, it's a clean install.

I have tested with an old MT version (2.9.7) and it's install ok...

whatd do you want fixed?
bgp setup w/ routing-test won't work without redistribute connected, in version 2.8.28 w/ regular routing, filtering won't work correctly

redistribute inject into bgp cause bgp origin=incomplete

and sometimes routing table screwed!
bgp can't see if peers refreshed...

another problem :
state=established, prefix=180000+, but no routes in routing table???
even there is routes in routing table, ping timeout, reboot router fix this problem
supout.rif already sent!

I may try to upgrade some of our routers that are using VRRP this weekend and we'll see how it goes.

Any advice for upgrading VRRP enabled routers from version 2.9.7?

We use RSTP too. Did someone find out if that is enabled in this release or schedule for a future release?

Hello

well, the missing bgp network command can be replaced -in a way- by enabling the "redistribute static" in the bgp instance settings
and by installing a static route manually that should point in a local interface.
By making this we should filter properly our routes.

It's a fact that the routing-test from 2.9.20 and up has been greatly improved.
In fact it outperfrom the stable routing package.

However there is a major problem in the bgp update process.
In some circumstances bgp removes succesfully a route as is suposed to do, but it does not inform correctly other bgp neighbors.
The only way to uninstall the invalid routes from the other neighbors is by disabling/enabling the bgp instance in them.
In any case the bgp timers was set in a value bigger then zero because in the past we were having problems when they left in 0.
This situation was tested and replicated succesfully in our wireless network in several routers in Athens (http://www.awmn.net).

Thanks in advance

Here is an example of a stucked AS path (2.9.24 routing-test).
routing bgp instance> print
Flags: X - disabled
 0   name="default" as=1286 router-id=10.17.119.1 redistribute-static=yes
     redistribute-connected=no redistribute-rip=no redistribute-ospf=no
     redistribute-other-bgp=no out-filter="" client-to-client-reflection=no
Destination: 10.94.141.0/24

BGP AS Path: 3757,4790,2379,913,410,3180,3170,2801,2804,38,941,199,3329,2315,1,2615,5023,45,8580,65141
The bgp router from which this info has extracted, is having link with bgp routers 45 and 3757.
The bgp router 45 does not have this route in his routing table.
The network 10.94.141.0/24 actually is down but its stuck on some routers bgp table
and comming in to my router from the bgp neighbor 3757.

This produces invalid path information in the routing table and its just a small example of the problem.

There is also a supout availlable.

Just to let you know that this issue still seems to be there in the CF image. Copied the image to CF then installed on a WRAP and got the license expired message. Install 2.9.23 then upgrade to 2.9.24 works fine.

The network 10.94.141.0/24 actually is down but its stuck on some routers bgp table
and comming in to my router from the bgp neighbor 3757.
I also have the same problem on my router running 2.9.24 + routing test
I have sent the supout.rif to mikrotik let’s hope that they will find out what’s wrong.
